And so we’re off! After a glorious summer of sun, sea, sand and mountains, the L.I.S. Secondary community returned on August 12th and it’s like we’ve never been away. Buoyed by outstanding IGCSE and IBDP results, by a great 2018-19 of musicals, concerts (Christmas and Summer), and unprecedented sporting achievements, the students have come back to school refreshed and ready for more!
So, what does the new term have in store? We have recently elected for the Student Council in the Upper School and, newly, in the Middle School. This elected body are a crucially important conduit carrying forth the feedback from the students to ensure that the student body is properly engaged and enfranchised in the development of the school.
Year-groups are enjoying week-long trips (Grade 7 to the Czech Republic, Grade 9 to Rügen) which are always a highlight of the school year. Meanwhile, sports coaching has already begun for cross-country, football and volleyball teams. This is not to mention the huge programme of musical instruments and choir that is already underway, preparing to be unleashed upon an unsuspecting audience in time for Christmas! We continue to work hard to develop all aspects of the holistic student learning experience.
What’s more, L.I.S. students are heroically working towards an exciting participation and public workshop for the ‘Remembering Leipzig, 1989’ Lichtfest. This is one of many concerted efforts to promote ourselves as a truly internationalist school.
From my perspective, it’s a pleasure to lead such a dedicated team of teachers and fabulous students at L.I.S. I’m delighted by the start we’ve made to the new school year and long may it continue.
