Leipzig International School has installed state of the art Air Purification systems in every primary classroom this week. After many trials we have settled on the Pure Eddy air filtration units which use HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) Filters to extract particles out of the air like mold, bacteria, viruses and allergens. Originally designed for space travel and medical surgery, this filtration system manages to extract 99.97% of particles from the imbibed air at a whisper decibel level and without creating draughts. Child-lock touch screen operation makes it the perfect system for our classrooms including the primary music room and library.
We are very grateful for the partnership of the US consulate in financing this important step in keeping our staff and students healthy and concentrated on teaching and learning.
Since the start of the pandemic we have been investigating how to make Leipzig International School as safe as possible. We of course adhere to every directive from the state and city, offer testing over and above the recommended schedule when needed and have streamlined teaching, meal times and Hort schedules to ensure contacts remains at a minimum when this has been necessary.
In addition to this, Leipzig International School has been looking into other technologies that can support us in our efforts.
LIS is taking part in a study by the GIZ (International Cooperation Society) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development in implementing UV-C lighting. Various investigations and studies have shown that UV-C light effectively inactivates viruses, bacteria and germs on directly irradiated surfaces and in the air (aerosols). Laboratory tests even assume an effectiveness of 99% in the inactivation of viruses – including SARS-CoV-2 – with an irradiation time of at least 6 seconds. The current trials with this in select spaces in the school are promising.
There is much still to do before we can put the disruption this pandemic has inflicted on us aside but we feel that we as a school along with our partners and you as a community are taking the best possible measures to ensure our children’s life and learning remains as stable and safe as possible.
