Boarding Life

Discover what life at our boarding school will be all about: a warm and welcoming community, a home away from home, and an environment where young people can learn, grow, and create unforgettable memories together.

Everyday Life

During the week, our boarders make the short walk from Plagwitz to LIS.

Breakfast and lunch will be provided at school. Learners then have their normal school day — lessons, friends, sport, music, art, clubs and activities. After school there is time for study, activities, exercise, friends or time in Leipzig. Boarders return home for a catered dinner.

And then there is everyday life: homework, laundry, conversations, keeping your room organised, calling home and getting ready for tomorrow.

We want the boarding house
to feel like home at the end of the school day,
not another part of the school timetable.

Weekends

Weekends will have a different rhythm. There will be opportunities to do things together, but we don’t believe every hour needs to be organised.

Students might explore Leipzig, meet friends, play sport, go to a concert, study, relax at home or spend time together in the Hof. All while checking in with the head of boarding to ensure we know where everyone is.

At weekends, learners will prepare brunch together, with ingredients provided at the house. Cooking, eating and cleaning up together are ordinary parts of sharing a home.

So is deciding what to do with a Saturday afternoon.

Learning to Manage your own Life

Living away from home brings lots of small responsibilities.

Managing your money. Planning your week. Doing your laundry. Keeping your room organised. Sharing a bathroom. Knowing when you need to study. Getting yourself across the city. Working through a disagreement with someone you live with.

These things might sound ordinary. They are.

But learning to manage them is part of becoming independent.

Sometimes students will need help. Sometimes they need advice. And sometimes they need someone to say, you can manage this.

Our role is to know the difference.

Freedom and Responsibility

Our learners are 16 and above, and we want them to have real independence. That comes with responsibility.

Boarders need to communicate with the boarding team, respect agreed expectations and return times, and make responsible choices about where they go and how they spend their time.

As learners show that they are ready for greater independence, there should be room for that independence to grow.

That’s part of preparing for life beyond school too.

Learning and Wellbeing

Our boarding students are completing some of the most important years of their education. The IB Diploma Programme is demanding, and learning how to manage that workload is part of becoming more independent.

Learners have space to study at home and access to the academic support available through LIS. Our boarding team stays connected with colleagues at school so that we can respond when a learner needs some additional structure or support.

Learners also have access to our school counselling team.

The aim isn’t to extend the school day into the evening. We want boarders to learn how to balance study, activities, friendships, sleep and everything else that is part of being 16, 17 or 18.

Boarding opens in August 2027.
