The first tournament of the 2018-19 GISST season was a huge success for LIS last weekend. Berlin British School hosted the Cross-Country event, and our superbly trained 24-strong team coached by Mr Mills and Ms Simasi travelled in confident mood. Thanks also to Ms Allen for given her distance running expertise and time in the training sessions leading up to the event. The results they achieved, exceeded expectations, for the Under 14 girls, the Varsity girls and the Varsity boys all won their events, while the Under 14 boys came in 5th place – three gold medals out of four!
This was a team victory, but there were top-class individual performances from
Rune (G7) – who finished second in the U14 boys race; Tina (G7) – who came fourth in the U14 girls race;
Sarah (G10) – who dominated the Varsity girls race, leading from the gun to win convincingly, 150m ahead of second place, and
Buchr (G12) – who has been a permanent member of the cross country team since joining the school. He won his final race for LIS as gold medalist in the Varsity Boys race, cruising home 200m ahead of second place and breaking the course record by 11 seconds.
Congratulations to our cross-country champions and all students who regularly turned up to the training, and many thanks to their coaches.
