    Lisa moved to Leipzig in 2007. While working as an educator in the Kindergarten St. Nikolai she completed her studies in Early Childhood Education and Management (Bachelor of Arts). Before that she attained a certificate as social assistance. Lisa joined our Nursery Team on November 2014. Since October 2017 Lisa has been studying Psychology besides work.

  • Aderhold, Melanie

    Melanie grew up in Mühlhausen a small town in Thuringia. After Highschool she worked as a volunteer,  sewing for the disabled. After a long internship in the Nursery of Uferknirpse Kindergarten, she found her passion and started her training as social assistant. In 2012 she moved to Leipzig to study as an educator at Euro Akademie. Her working experience started at our school two years ago. To try out working in an open concept Kindergarten, she changed to Fairbund. After giving birth to her daughter she decided to return to LIK because she enjoyed the English language and diversity in her daily routines.

  • Allen, Gillian

    Teacher Physical Education

    Gillian Allen, originally from Newcastle Upon Tyne in the North-East of England, studied for a Sports Science degree at The University of Birmingham. She did her PGCE in Secondary Physical Education at The University of Reading and has since taught in England, Egypt, Oman, Belgium and now Germany. She has come to Leipzig with her husband (who works in the Secondary school) and her two children who also attend LIS. When not teaching she is a keen runner, having recently been selected to run for England, and can often be seen pounding the roads and discovering the delights of Leipzig.

  • Allen, Neil

    The start of the 2019-20 school year marks two decades in education and the beginning of Neil's sixteenth year in international education. Having worked in England and then at international schools in Egypt and Oman, Neil and his family spent eight years at the International School of Brussels in which he performed many roles, notably being the Head of the English Department and a Teacher Workshop Leader for the International Baccalaureate and for various professional development providers including InThinking.
    Neil's passion has always been with the relationships between teachers and students and the power of effective classroom teaching and learning, so it was a pleasure to spend the past academic year leading this focus at LIS. He is extremely proud and honoured to be leading an excellent team of staff and teachers and leading the learning of the students of the school as Secondary Principal.

  • Allenby, Richard

    Richard was born and raised in Leeds, Yorkshire, England. His degree is from Bristol University in Theology. He was a specialist social worker for a number of years before changing to teaching in 2002. He did his teacher training in Birmingham UK and worked at the same school for six years before venturing off to see a bit of the world. After 8 years in Thailand (four in Bangkok and four in Phuket) and a short stint in Egypt Richard is very happy to be in Leipzig Germany.

  • Almunaizel, Lana

    Lana grew up in Würzburg, Germany and moved to Jordan in her teen years where she attended the International Community School Amman and finished off her A-levels. Afterwards, Lana moved to Berlin to do a voluntary social year in a nursery. She then decided to study social work in the picturesque town of Leeuwarden (Netherlands). For her probationary year, she came to the sociocultural center Haus Steinstraße e.V. in Leipzig. She fell in love with the city and decided to stay here. Lana assisted DaZ (German as a Second Language) classes at the Helmholtzschule in Leipzig and holds a Bachelor of Social Work.

  • Alsman, Corinne

    Corinne Alsman was born and raised in Newport Beach, California, USA. After graduating from High School, she moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico to study Art. She attended the College of Santa Fe and earned her BA in Studio Arts.  From 2000-2010 Corinne worked as a professional artist and Gallery Manager throughout the US. She found her passion to teach while donating her time to After School Programs teaching children art. Corinne received her Diploma for Primary and Secondary Education in 2013. She has been teaching internationally ever since. This is her third year in Germany.

  • Altdörfer, Tina

    Hort Educator/Classroom Assistant

    Tina grew up in a small town in the south of Germany. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in Social Work at the University of Applied Science Ravensburg-Weingarten. Subsequently, she worked in an institution for people with disabilities. She accomplished the organisation and leadership of integrative holiday camps for children and teenagers. In addition, she acquired various experiences in counselling, networking and collaborating with partners. In 2015, Tina moved to Leipzig and worked at the youth welfare office with unaccompanied refugees’ underage. Furthermore, she gained different work experiences abroad. For instance, in Lima, Peru to conduct pedagogical projects for families and their children. She also worked at the University of St Andrews, Scotland and coordinated a social group for new mothers and mothers-to-be to share their experiences with each other and with their babies. In 2020, she finished her master’s programme Early Childhood Research (MSc) at Leipzig University. Tina has joined the Hort team in January 2021.

  • Andresen, Carl

    Carl was born in Kristiansand at the southern tip of Norway. In 1994 he graduated from the Physiotherapy-college in Bergen, and for several years he worked clinically in Norway, and subsequently with educating physiotherapists internationally. Having an affiliation for teaching he decided to make a career-change, and graduated as a primary-school teacher at the University in Kristiansand 2009. Since then he has been working as a primary-school class-teacher in Bergen and at the Phorms bilingual school in Hamburg.

  • Antoranz, Angel

    Secondary Teacher Modern Foreign Languages - Spanish/Global Perspective

    Angel Antoranz grew up in Marbella in Southern Spain. However he spent most of his adult life in Newcastle-upon-Tyne where he qualified as a teacher. LIS is Angel’s first international school: before coming here in 2012 he worked in the state sector back in England. He currently teaches Spanish from Grades 6 to 12 and he is a member of the school’s works council.

  • Appelt, Katrin

    Katrin grew up in Thuringia and started her career as a mechanical engineer in Leipzig.  She then worked in commercial, technical and sales departments in various companies in Germany for several years. Before joining LIS Katrin spent some years in the UK where she obtained a Master’s degree in Environmental Science from Reading University. She joined LIS in 2015 and since then has been working in the school’s secondary office.

    Steffi Arnas grew up in the Erzgebirge region in Saxony and has professional and educational training in the hospitality industry. After thirteen years of working in various customer service organisations she joined LIS in August 2009 and since then can be found at the school’s reception desk.

    Miftah is from Indonesia and has been living in Germany since 2011. She holds a Master's degree in Psychology from Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena. Before joining Leipzig International School in 2018, she worked as HR Trainee at Weber-Stephen Products in Berlin and as HR Recruiter at the Leipzig/Halle Airport.

    Bianca grew up in Magdeburg, Germany and moved to Leipzig in 2008. She fell in love with the city and therefore decided to stay. She is currently studying Social Work and also holds a Master’s degree in Translation (German, English, French, Spanish). In order to gain experience in working with children she joined our Hort team in August 2021.

  • Bakic, Daniella

    Daniella was born and raised in London, UK. After earning her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, she moved to Leipzig where she completed her Master’s degree in Early Childhood Research. Her thesis on Attachment Theory was conducted at the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences in Leipzig. She has an everlasting wanderlust and enjoys being close to nature. Daniella is beyond excited to join the LIS Hort team and she looks forward to having new experiences, learning new skills and playing a more active role in improving children’s learning.

     

     

  • Bara, Vasiliki

    Vasiliki was born in Larisa, Greece, but grew up in Augsburg, Germany and Kastoria, Greece. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in Educational Sciences from the University of Thessaly and her master’s degree in Dance Studies from the Free University of Berlin. In 2018 she moved to Leipzig in order to attend an educational program in Dance Pedagogy and Choreography and started offering several dance classes. Her interest has always been the combination of dance, creativity and pedagogy. In July 2020 she has joined the LIS Hort team.

    Aoife is originally from Dublin, Ireland. She is a qualified General Nurse and Midwife (RGN & RM) and after graduating, she spent some time working in Ireland before moving to Saudi Arabia in 2006. During her time here, Aoife worked at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre Jeddah before becoming a School Nurse at the British International School of Jeddah.
    In 2016, Aoife moved to Uganda for a year, where she spent time volunteering with Hospice Africa. Aoife returned to Ireland in September 2017 before moving to Leipzig in July 2018 and commencing as School Nurse in December 2019.

    Tim was born in Cheshire, England and ever since he was seven, he knew he wanted to be a teacher. After graduating in 2000 with a BSc. Primary Education, Tim taught in England, Saudi Arabia and Uganda, before making the move to Leipzig in January 2018. As an advocate for continuous professional learning, Tim has attained a MEd. Educational Leadership & School Improvement from the University of Manchester and his National Professional Qualification for Headteachers from the UK.

  • Belgacem, Rain

    Rain is originally from Liverpool, UK and has recently relocated to Leipzig to begin her career at LIK. She graduated from Liverpool John Moores University with a bachelors in Education and Early Years 2021. During her time at university she completed an international placement in a bilingual school in Bangkok, Thailand. This experience reaffirmed her aspiration to work in an international setting. Since she spent summers in Germany as a teenager, it was somewhere Rain felt she could quickly call home. This led her to Leipzig where she found the bilingual setting she was looking for. Rain is looking forward to meeting and working with both parents and children throughout the coming year.

  • Bell, Barbara

    Barbara is a German native, who graduated with a BA (Hons) in Primary Education and History from Lancaster University. She taught in Liverpool, before she moved to Leipzig in 2007, working as a class teacher, grade level leader and coordinator for social sciences in the primary school at LIS. After her parental leave, she taught at a German state school, but returned to LIS as a German teacher in 2019. Her qualifications have been fully recognised by the State of Saxony as comparable to a 2. Staatsexamen.

  • Bell, Gary

    Gary Bell is a Theology graduate of the Queen's University in Belfast. He also holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Education from the University of Liverpool  and a Master's degree in International History from Staffordshire University. He worked in schools in England before joining the staff of Leipzig International School in 2008. He teaches Global Perspectives and History and is also an examiner in History for Cambridge International Examinations.

  • Bennett, Sabrina

    Sabrina Bennett comes from a small town in Wales called Penarth. She holds a Sports Science degree and a Master's degree in Health and Exercise Science from The University of Glamorgan. Sabrina trained to be a teacher in Bangor University and taught in Wales, England, Germany and Switzerland, before coming to Leipzig in 2008. She currently teaches Physical Education in the Primary and Secondary school, is a form tutor and is the Head of Department for Physical Education.

  • Bernhardt, Domenica

    Domenica grew up in a small village in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. After grammar school she worked in an elderly home, before she started to study at a college near Magdeburg to become a social assistant and educator. After graduating in 2015 Domenica moved to Leipzig, where she worked in a kindergarten. In January 2016 she moved on to work in an after school care centre for children with special needs and handicaps. In November 2016 Domenica finally found her work placement to be, when she started at Leipzig International Kindergarten.

  • Bertelmann, Lia

    Lia completed her A-levels in Dresden in 2020. While she was at school she led a photography course in an elementary school for two years. Lia moved to Leipzig to study childhood education at the IUBH. Leipzig. Since this is a dual study programme, she spends half time of the week in kindergarten and the other half at the university. In her free time, Lia bakes delicious cakes or rides her bike through the city.

  • Bielz, Nancy

    Nancy grew up in Leipzig and joined LIS in 2006. She graduated as 'Wirtschaftskauffrau', studied Economics and holds diplomas as Management Assistant and in Foreign Language Communications. Before taking over the position as Headmaster's Secretary with LIS, where she actively assists the Head of School and the LIS Management, she worked as PA and Office Manager in various fields.

  • Bludau, Géraldine

    Géraldine Bludau hails from Paris, and is an Economic and Social Science graduate of the University of Paris. She also holds a Master's degree in Science of Education from the University of Grenoble. Géraldine joined LIS in 2006, having previously taught in Morocco. She currently teaches French to Grades 6 to 12.

  • Böhmer, Reingart

    Secondary Teacher - Mathematics

    Reingart Böhmer was born and grew up in Swakopmund, Namibia, and studied for a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, IT, Statistics, Applied Mathematics and, as additional subject, Music, at the University of Cape Town (UCT), South Africa, where she also did her Honours in Statistics while teaching as assistant Junior Lecturer in Statistics. After successfully completing her university career (1979) she became Junior Lecturer in Statistics at the University of South Africa (UNISA) in Pretoria, followed by a position as mathematics teacher at St. Mary's Diocesan School in Durban, teaching Grades 8 - 12, as music teacher at the German School Durban, and again as mathematics teacher for Grades 6 - 12 at LIS since 2001. Coaching volleyball for club and provincial teams in South Africa as well as in Germany for many years and teaching music - flute, conducting various youth, children's and adult choirs, are two other aspects of her professional teaching career.

  • Börner, Nadine

    Nadine was born in Meiningen, South Thuringia and studied Politics and History (Lehramt) at Leipzig University, before gaining a Master in German as a Foreign Language, English Studies and French Studies. In 2010 she published a book for bilingual children. Before she joined LIS in 2011 she taught GSL to refugees and immigrants and Business German to individual clients. At the beginning Nadine helped out in the Primary school, before joining the secondary German department. She currently teaches German at IGCSE and IB level, is a Grade 10 Form Tutor and holds the position of Student Council Advisor.

  • Branitz, Juliane

    Juliane was born in Lusatia and went to school in Dresden. She then lived in London for one year working as an au pair. Upon coming back to Germany Juliane moved to Magdeburg to attend the Otto-von-Guerricke University where she completed her master's degree in educational science and Anglistics in 2010. For the past five years she worked in a private daycare facility for children in Leipzig during which she also received her degree in state-approved early childhood education. Since October 2016 Juliane has been part of the Leipzig International Kindergarten team.

  • Brant, Alison

    Allie grew up in Ontario, Canada. She graduated with an Honours BA in Communication Studies from the University of Windsor. After teaching ESL in South Korea for a year, realised she wanted to continue on the path to become a certified teacher. She later graduated in 2012 from Queen's University with a Bachelor of Education in Primary/Junior. Allie taught Language Arts in Indonesia before moving to Belgium where she taught 2 years EAL, and 5 years as a Class Teacher. 

  • Browne, Patrick

    Patrick was born and raised in Gisborne, New Zealand. He started supply teaching for all age groups in 2012 after studying for a Graduate Diploma in Primary Teaching the year before. But Patrick soon found himself working in early childhood when he discovered that was the age group he was most passionate about. In 2014 he retrained with a Graduate Diploma in Early Childhood Education. Patrick has lived and taught around New Zealand as well as London for two years. He really enjoyed being able to travel easily and see much of Europe and looks forward to doing more travel as well as settling into life in Leipzig.

    Myles was born in Kent, England but grew up in Durban, South Africa. He studied at Edgewood College of Education where he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Primary Education. Myles has taught previously in South Africa, England and Thailand. He moved with his family to Leipzig in August 2014.

  • Buckingham, Rebecca

    Rebecca grew up in Sheffield, England where her family are originally from. In her early twenties she moved to London after qualifying as a Primary School teacher and taught in Barking & Dagenham for 4 years. She then moved to Bangkok Thailand and taught in 2 International Schools there. After 10 years teaching in Thailand, Rebecca wanted to move closer to the UK but wanted to remain as an International School teacher as she loves the diversity it brings. She moved to Leipzig with her family in 2014 and following maternity leave re-joined the LIS staff in February 2016 as a Grade 5 teacher.

    KhetKhet Burger comes from Myanmar and grew up in the United States. She has lived in Germany for many years, first in Frankfurt/M., and for the past 20 years in Leipzig. This is her second year at LIS where she works at the reception desk of the Leipzig International Kindergarten.

    Amy will be volunteering at LIK this year and is looking forward to getting to know all the children. She is German-Canadian and recently graduated from high school in Berlin.  Amy grew up with four siblings and loves working with children. Some of her hobbies are volleyball, photography and crocheting.

    Brendan comes from Perth, Australia where he developed a love for sports and the outdoors from a young age. After High School Brendan spent 8 years as a lifeguard before graduating from Edith Cowan University in 2017 with a Bachelor of Education specialising in Health and Physical Education.
    Since then he has been employed as a relief teacher for primary and secondary schools in Perth. Brendan is an active member of the sporting community where he plays cricket and Australian Rules Football.

  • Cajigal, Romnick

    Romnick Mariano Cajigal comes from the beautiful tropical country of the Philippines, with a degree in Biology from the University of the Philippines, Manila. He joined LIS in August 2011. Prior to working at LIS, Mr. C taught Physics and Biology in the Philippines, Physical Science and Biology in the United States of America, and IGCSE Biology and A/AS Level Biology in Indonesia.  The famous Mr. C has been a form teacher since he moved in to LIS as well as being a Biology teacher at IGCSE and IB levels.

    Anne is a qualified teacher and holds a Diploma in German and Russian Language and Literature. Additionally, she studied German as a Foreign Language (Certificate of Herder-Institut) and holds a Montessori-Diploma. Anne has been working at a public primary school in Leipzig before she joined LIS.

  • Caspar, Kadek

    Kadek was born in Bali, Indonesia. Since 2010 she is living in Leipzig, where she finished her degree as Staatlich anerkannte Erzieherin at the Heimerer Schulen GmbH.
    Kadek started to collect her experiences on the brunches of sales and marketing business around eight years in Asia, before she came 2010 to Germany to marry her German husband. Her 2 year experiences and activities in China at the German School Shanghai gave her the opportunity to further develop her work with the children.
    Kadek completed her education as a state recognized educator in Germany and immediately gained another experience in a kindergarten "KiTa um die Welt" and she is now very happy to be a part of the Leipzig International Kindergarten family.

    Jeroen Cavents grew up in Turnhout Belgium, where he studied a Bachelor of Secondary Education in Fine Arts and Art Mediation at Karel de Grote University College Antwerp. He deepened his passion for arts in the framework of a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Luca School of Arts Brussels and Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Cultures of the Curatorial at the Academy of Fine Arts in Leipzig. His work has been featured in exhibitions in Rome, Berlin, Leipzig, Brussels and Antwerp and can be found in various publications.

  • Chatburn, Benjamin

    Ben grew up in Norfolk, on the eastern coast of the England. After completing his music BA in London, he moved to Leipzig in 2018 and started coaching parkour. In 2019 he undertook a voluntary social year at a Kindergarten. As a member of the LIS Hort team, he strives to bring his love of community and adventure to the youth of the city.

  • Chonge, Mwape

    Mwape was born and raised in Zambia. She studied Mathematics and Physical Education at Nkhrumah University. Mwape excited to explore the city of Leipzig and it’s culture. Before joining Leipzig International School Mwape was working as a Substitute Teacher/After School Staff at Dresden International School from September 2017 to July 2020. Since 2008 she has also taught at different international schools in Zambia including the International School of Lusaka. In her teaching experience, Mwape has worked with various age groups ranging from 1 to 19 years. She has coached different school teams in various sports. Mwape loves working and spending time with children.

  • Christiansen, Robert

    Born and raised in Leipzig, Robert is one of the few natives on the LIS staff. He joined the school in 2013 as Parent Community Coordinator, and held the position of Management Assistant. Before joining LIS, Robert worked in the field of copy-editing and then as Project Coordinator at an independent community radio station in Halle, Saxony-Anhalt, running media literacy projects for young people of different age. Robert holds a Master's Degree in German as a Foreign Language and Italian Studies, taught at an Elementary School in Leipzig and worked with adult German learners. In 2017, he joined the Secondary School and currently teaches German in middle school and in the IB Diploma Programme. Robert also is one of the teachers to talk to regarding CAS in grade 11 and 12.

  • Ciceri, Tamara

    Tami comes from Novi Sad, Serbia. She gained her Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education in 2010. After 4 years of working in Kindergarten in her home city, she decided to go for an adventure. She spent 7 years on a cruise ship working with children. This way, Tami travelled the world and had the opportunity to meet thousands of kids from all over the globe.
    Meanwhile, she studied Educational Psychology and in April this year, Tami finished her specialization with music in Early Childhood as a major. She is open, communicative, friendly and very excited to be part of LIK family.

  • Clutton, Sarah

    Sarah was born and raised in the city of Liverpool, England, where she completed her Early Years Educator apprenticeship in a small private nursery. She worked there for three years before deciding to move to Leipzig in 2016 to live with her German partner. Shortly after finishing her German Integration Course at the 'Zu Hause e.V.' she was delighted to find a position at the LIK and is excited to be a part of it all.

  • Comiskey-Goller, Courtenay

    Primary Teacher - Englisch as Additional Language (EAL)

    Courtenay Comiskey-Goller is from the east coast of the USA and holds degrees in English & Education (B.A.), Elementary Mathematics & Literacy (M.A.) and attended a summer programme for teachers at Harvard University. Her teaching career has been mainly abroad at international schools in the Czech Republic and Germany, working as both a classroom teacher and EAL specialist. In 2007, she moved to Germany, teaching in Weimar and Cologne, before arriving at LIS in 2012 to teach and coordinate primary EAL and is currently a classroom teacher.

  • Croft, Siobhan

    Siobhan hails from Lincolnshire in England and received her Bachelor of Arts in Education with QTS, studying at university in Manchester. Siobhan enjoys singing and playing the ukulele and is a keen field hockey player. After working as a qualified teacher in Lincolnshire since 2017, she has been hired as one of the Primary Teachers at LIS and is thrilled to be relocating to Leipzig where she has visited on many occasions.  

  • Dedousis, Konstantinos

    Konstantinos has an international background, both educationally and professionally. He worked and studied education in Spain and Greece, and he is currently working on his doctorate project, which is about political and ethical pedagogy. In 2020 he moved to Germany and worked in the local educational system. Since April 2021 he is delighted to be a member of the Leipzig International School’s family.

    Gaynor Dindorf comes from England where she obtained a degree in English and Drama before qualifying to English to 11-18 year olds. Gaynor began her teaching career in the UK but has also taught in international schools the USA, the Sudan, Austria, and now Germany. Gaynor, and her husband, began teaching at LIS in August 2012 and they both very much enjoy the school and life in the city of Leipzig.

    Tomasz (Tom) Dindorf is a 3-rd culture person. He was brought up in Poland and the USA, completed his high-school in Austria, then college and university the USA, after which he taught Physics in Austria, England, the USA, and the Sudan, before coming to Leipzig in 2012. He is a product of the IB system, with degrees in Physics (B.A., Harvard) and Special Education/Visual Impairment (M.A., Columbia). His experiences include being an Assistant Examiner (IGCSE), and Workshop Leader (IBDP).

    Marisa DiTeresa Wuttke is a native Texan who moved from New York City to Leipzig in 2009. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and Dance from the University of Texas and was a member of the faculty and staff at the Juilliard School for Performing Arts for eight years before relocating to Germany. She has worked at LIS in various capacities since 2010. After receiving her Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from the University of Sunderland, Marisa was hired as Primary class teacher.

    Originally from the south east of England, Nicola studied History and English at Oxford University followed by an MA in Medieval Studies at the University of London.  Having completed a PGCE at Canterbury Christ Church University, she has worked in a wide range of educational environments, from secondary schools to sixth form colleges and universities, in varied roles, including English teaching, pastoral tutoring, higher education and careers advice, study and enrichment skills, critical thinking and 'gifted and talented' provision.  Nicola is teaching Global Perspectives at LIS.

    Having attained a BA (Hons) degree in German and English, from the University of London, and a post-graduate teaching qualification (PGCE), from the University of Wales, Fiona taught for 11 years in England, before joining LIS in 1999. Her particular interest has always been in the realm of student support/pastoral care. Years of experience, in a variety of contexts and in various roles of responsibility both in the UK and at LIS, led to her current position as Head of Student Support Services. Having previously taught English, Fiona now teaches PSHE and also serves as the school's Child/Youth Welfare and Protection Consultant and Coordinator.

    Thomas Elms is from London, England. He has an honours degree in English Literature, and a Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) in Primary Education with a Modern Foreign Languages (German) specialism. He taught in various schools in and around Manchester, north-west England, before making the move to Leipzig in 2009 with his wife Bryony Galligan, also a primary teacher at LIS. He is a keen cyclist, runner and tennis player, and is the coach of Varsity Badminton and Tennis.

After completing her B.A. degree in 2016, Lynn moved to Leipzig to gain personal experience abroad and to be closer to her sister and her children.

    Deborah Fischer hails from Massachusetts, USA. She holds a Bachelor of Science from Boston's Emerson College having majored in Communication, Science and Disorders with a focus on Speech Language Pathology and Psychology. Deborah holds a T.E.S.O.L. certification from Barcelona Spain's Oxford House College. Deborah also completed her Master of Education with honours from Arizona's Grand Canyon University. Currently she is a doctoral student with the American College of Education studying Leadership and Curriculum and Instruction in Early Childhood Education. She has been with LIS since 2003 and has taught within the Early Years and Primary Departments.

    Emily was born and raised in the South West of Western Austria. She moved Perth to attend university and taught in two schools, including starting a foundation school.  In 2018, she moved to Edinburgh, Scotland and worked at Stewart’s Melville College before moving to Germany. She taught the last term of 2018 at Thuringia International School in Weimar. Emily believes that music is something that you do and do together and is excited to make music at LIS.

    Lito Vera earned a Bachelor degree in Educational/Pedagogical Sciences from the University of Ioannina, Greece. Upon graduation, she moved to Manchester, UK, where she obtained a Master degree in Inclusive Education and Special Educational Needs. At the same time, she started gaining working experience in different primary and secondary schools in the Greater Manchester area as a PPA and intervention/SEN Teacher. Currently, she is a part time PhD student studying Leadership and Inclusive/Special Education. Lito strongly believes in the value of inclusion and considers it an opportunity to enrich all aspects of our community. Embracing the fact that students exhibit a range of abilities and learn differently, Lito views inclusion as a means to empower all learners to fulfill their own individual potentials. In her free time, she enjoys sculpting and painting as well as playing and watching volleyball. She particularly enjoys going to rock concerts, listening to music and reading books.

    Paul grew up in the Midlands of England, and is a graduate of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. After training as a teacher and gaining experience in education, he took up the position of Director of Music at Aiglon College, Switzerland. After five years in the Swiss mountains, he moved back to England to lead the music faculty in a specialist music college. He has been enjoying working at LIS since 2011, both inside the classroom teaching music at IGCSE and IB level, and outside lesson time directing ensembles.

    Kerry is originally from Australia’s stunning Blue Mountains. He attended the University of Notre Dame Australia, completing a Bachelor of Education (Secondary) and Business Studies. He is looking forward to commencing a Masters of Business Administration through the University of Tasmania.
    Kerry began his teaching career in Western Sydney, before moving to the United Kingdom in 2017. It was in Cambridge that he first began teaching at an international school and discovered his passion for international education. Kerry is excited to join the LIS team in August 2019.

    Sabine graduated in 2012 in her hometown Erfurt. With an interest in the English language and the country, England, from an early age, she went to London after graduation where she worked as an Au Pair, which she thoroughly enjoyed.  After her year abroad, she started work at a primary school in Erfurt. During this time she looked after the children from the first to the fourth grade, as the school worked according to the Jena plan.
    In the afternoon care she was able to get the children excited about nature and art, both things that bring her joy. She moved to Leipzig in September 2019 where she worked at a state primary school during which time she learned a lot about her work as a Hort Educator. Sabine decided to go a new way and was greatly looking forward to working for the Leipzig International School, when she started at LIS in September 2020.

When Simone started working as educator at LIS in 2009, she worked as kindergarden specialist, when she was teaching German lessons in Early Years 3 classes in the mornings and worked as Hort educator in the afternoons. In 2014 Simone started her responsibility as Assistant Hort Leader. In her role she supports the Hort leader with all daily administrative tasks for Hort and Holiday Hort and coordinates the After School Activities.

    Shawna was born in the US, spending most of her life living near Lake Tahoe, Nevada.  She completed her degree in Elementary and Early Childhood education in Reno, Nevada, where she then taught Kindergarten (5-6 year olds).  After being able to travel for a few months, she realized she wanted to pursue an international teaching career.  She lived in Bangkok, Thailand teaching English, and is now excited to be a part of the Leipzig International Kindergarten team.

    Valerie Habicht-Geels was born in Eindhoven in The Netherlands. She studied at The Pedagogic Academy in Maastricht (The Netherlands) from 1988-1992 where she got her first Bachelor's degree as a primary school teacher. Valerie earned her second Bachelor's degree from The Theater Academy Eindhoven (The Netherlands) where she became an actress and a theater teacher. She was nominated for 4 prizes with her plays and won the first prize for Germany, Austria and Switzerland at the “Heidelberg Theatre-Festival” in 2013. Valerie started working at LIS in 2012 as a substitute teacher. Since 2015 she teaches German as an Additional Language (GAL) in Primary School.

    Pauline grew up in Saxony-Anhalt. Her first university degree programme was for an B.A. in Romance and German languages and literature at Friedrich-Schiller-University in Jena. Thereafter Pauline graduated with a Master of Arts degree in German as a foreign language and German as a second language. Additionally, she is a qualified teacher for literacy courses, integration courses and naturalisation courses. Her teaching career has been in Germany and abroad at schools in France and Turkey.
    In Istanbul and Izmir Pauline joined an international programme to combine experiential education according to the principle of lifelong learning. After teaching at University in Canada, Québec she did a world trip and trained as a yoga teacher in India. Pauline is working at LIS as a German teacher in primary school. In addition to her passion as a teacher, Pauline loves yoga and snowboarding.

    Stela was born in Bulgaria and grown up in Turkey. She received her bachelor's degree at Preschool Education department of Boğaziçi University. After her graduation she became a member of an international school as a teacher in İstanbul. She continued her graduate studies in Middle East Technical University at the department of early childhood education and received her MS degree, focused more on giftedness, teaching and learning approaches in early childhood education. Stela has been teaching for 10 years with various responsibilities. She believes that there is a reciprocal relationship between teaching and learning in the classroom, and she describes herself as a facilitator who cooperates with children to reach their own potential. Stela aspires to be a life-long learner, and she is enthusiastic about having new experiences in the Leipzig International Kindergarten.

    Annie grew up in Australia and taught in primary schools across Melbourne before moving to Europe to teach at the International School of Florence in 2005. She graduated with a Bachelor of Musical Theatre from the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music and a Bachelor of Teaching in music and drama from the University of Melbourne. As well as being the Primary School music teacher, she has also taught in the classroom, PSHE and drama. She has loved directing five of the LIS Staff musicals with all our talented staff. She is excited about another year of music-making and performances in LIS Primary.

    I grew up in Jena, Germany and moved to Leipzig to study at the University Leipzig.
    I always had a great enthusiasm for the subject German. During my Cultural Sciences studies, I
    focused on German culture, history and sociology. I hold a Master´s Degree in Cultural Sciences and
    Sciences of Communication and Media. Furthermore, I finished a correspondence degree at the
    Goethe Institute, Munich.
    Before starting my teaching career, I was a filmmaker for animated short movies. I led several film
    courses and project weeks at the Albert-Schweitzer-Schule, Leipzig with students from 8 to 14 years of
    age.
    And then I have been working as a teacher of German as a Foreign Language at Studio Lingua, working with adult German learners.

    Rita Hilbich is an original Leipzig native. She was born and raised here. Rita has a degree in Economics from the University of Leipzig and has received training and further education in tax law. Rita joined LIS way back in 2005 when LIS had 373 students and 60 staff members. She has been witness to the steady growth of LIS with rising students and staff numbers in recent years and has also seen the restoration of the LIS Campus.
    Rita is the Senior Accountant at LIS and is responsible for payroll and financial accounting, various reports and financial statements.

    Becky Hillyer comes from Chester in the UK and is a graduate of International Relations and History from the University of Essex, with a PGCE from the University of Leicester. Becky joined LIS in 1998 having previously worked in International and Bilingual Schools in Switzerland, Turkey and Colombia. She has been the IB Diploma Coordinator at LIS since 2009. She teaches History and the Theory of Knowledge on the Diploma Programme.

    Marie-Luise Hoffmann grew up in Leipzig and after a couple years of travelling and living in Australia, Canada and the UK, she returned to her hometown and started working at LIS in January 2015. In August 2019 she then joined the LIK team. Marie-Luise holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work.

    Jennifer completed her A-Levels in Werdau in 2017. Afterwards she volunteered for one year at a primary school. There Jennifer led a handball team and found out what life as a teacher would be like.
    In October 2018, she began studying to become an educator. Since 2020 Jennifer has been studying Early Childhood Education at the IUBH Leipzig. As it is a dual study programme, Jennifer spends half of the week in kindergarten and the other half at university. In her free time she likes to play handball and also works as a coach for a Leipzig handball team.

    Lisa grew up in a small town in Saxony, where she finished her A-levels in 2014. She decided to do a gap year right after school and moved to Leipzig to start as a volunteer at LIK. It reassured her that working at a kindergarten is what she wants to do for a living. Lisa started her training to become a social assistant in 2015 and to become an educator in 2016.
    In 2018 she took a break from her training after her first child was born and finally finished it in 2020.
    For Lisa it was very clear that she would like to come back to LIK because she always loved the English language and really enjoyed her time at LIK as a volunteer.

    Emily was born in beautiful Leipzig and grew up in a small village near Leipzig. She is a native German speaker and fluent in English. She loves hiking and travelling while discovering new countries.

    Since elementary school she wanted to become an educator for children. She followed her dream and began her apprenticeship as a social assistant at the Bernd-Blindow Schule in Leipzig and finished in 2018. After that, she continued her path and completed her second apprenticeship as officially recognized educator at the Henriette-Goldschmidt Schule.

    Throughout her apprenticeships, she has been able to gather a lot of important experience working with children of all ages. The numerous voluntary internships that she has done in different kindergartens, have helped to learn from different cultures and concepts, such as Fröbel, and guided her to become a citizen of the world.

    Her journey is however not finished yet, as she would like to continue studying and keep discovering the beauties of other countries and cultures.

    Her job is her greatest passion and she is looking forward to start this new adventure at LIK working with the Nursery 1 children with a lot of love, empathy and dedication.

    Andreas Hoppe got his degree as an educator in 2012 and started his working career in Munich, until 2015. During this time he exclusively worked with toddlers (8mths – 3y).
    In September 2015 he came to Leipzig and started working at the Leipzig International Kindergarten in our Nursery. His focus of his daily work with the children - besides raising them to independent personalities - is the acquisition of language as well as the linguistic usage. Andreas works as a German and English educator.

Katja has spent time in the USA and has worked as a freelancer in several institutions, having taught GSL to students of various language proficiency levels ranging in age from six to adults. She joined LIS in 2006 and has taught all grades from 1-12. She currently teaches German as a Foreign Language at IGCSE and IB level.

    Chrissy was born in beautiful Lima, Peru. She is a child of a mixed marriage which is the reason she spent her first 5 years of life living in Peru before her family decided to move to Leipzig, Germany.

    She followed her dream and completed first her education as a Social Assistent and later her extra-occupational education as a Kindergarten teacher at the Euro Akademie in Leipzig.
    Whilst working in a small kindergarten in the north of Leipzig, mainly in the Nursery, she has been able to gather a lot of valuable experiences teaching the very youngest kids.

    Chrissy is a native german speaker, fluent in spanish, which is her second mother tongue and in english. She enjoys to work with the international concept and is convinced that a multilingual education isn’t just a huge advantage but the only way to be in this world. That is why she is beyond happy to be a part of LIS. She joined us in 2014 and is currently working in Nursery 2 where she instructs her kids with much love and passion.

    Birte Jörg grew up in the South of Germany where she did her A-Levels. After graduating she spent one year as an Au Pair in London. During her studies as “Staatlich anerkannte Erzieherin” she spent 3 months in Japan, where she did a practical training at the German School Tokyo-Yokohama. Christiane finished her degree as State-approved Early Childhood Educator in March 2012. Before joining the Leipzig International Kindergarten, Christiane worked at the “Fröbel Kindergarten” in Leipzig.

    Originally from Dundee, Scotland, Jayne Käthner has lived in Germany since 1997. After many years as a Personal Assistant in the National Health Service and in an international company in Bremen, Germany, Jayne followed her desire to work with children and worked for several years as a Helen Doron Early English Teacher in Bremen. She moved to Leipzig in 2013 where she joined the Hort Team at LIS. Jayne is a state recognised educator. She currently supports the EAL specialists in her role as Educator in class.

    Kelly Kay grew up in the Burton-on-Trent, England, and is a Contemporary European Studies and English graduate of the University of Dundee. She holds a Postgraduate Certificate of Education from the University of Birmingham and a Master's degree in Education from the University of Oxford Brookes. Kelly joined LIS in 2014, having previously taught in England as well as at international boarding schools in Spain, the Netherlands and Montenegro. She currently teaches English and is phase level leader for Grades 9-12.

    Anett Keller-Scrutton was born in Germany and moved to England in 1990. She qualified as an early childhood educator in Germany and also holds a BSc in natural science from her studies in England. She has previously worked with children in London, and in management in Canterbury and Ashford. Anett joined the Leipzig International Kindergarten as a Nursery educator, and now works with our Early Years groups.

  • Khaheshi, Navid

    Navid grew up in Iran, where he obtained his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, followed by a master’s degree in geotechnical engineering. While he was doing his Ph.D. in geotechnical engineering, Navid made the pivotal decision of his life between soil and soul. He withdrew from the Ph.D. program to become a full-time mathematics and physics teacher, a decision that he has never regretted. Navid had taught math and physics in different international schools in Malaysia and the Czech Republic for 12 years before joining LIS.

    Nathan is from South Korea. Before joining LIS in 2020, he has taught at some international schools in mainland China and Macau where he worked as a Head of Department and an IGCSE/IBDP math teacher.

However after an Erasmus exchange year in beautiful Leipzig, she decided to transfer her degree to the University of Leipzig, where she graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor in Romance Languages (Spanish and Italian). 3 years later she graduated from the Euro Akademie in Leipzig as a State Recognised Educator. Bethany has been working at the LIS since 2015.

  • Konwar, Róisín

    Róisín Ní Leathlóbhair is an experienced English teacher from Dublin, Ireland. She completed her Bachelor's Degree from University College Dublin in 2007. Her studies encompassed English, Irish and German language and literature. She first came to Leipzig in 2005 through the Erasmus student exchange programme. She graduated from Trinity College Dublin with a Postgraduate Diploma in Education. Róisín taught at two excellent schools in Dublin before returning to Leipzig to teach at the University. As well as being a Speaking Examiner for Cambridge English, Róisín is a published singer songwriter who sometimes performs in the city. Róisín joined the English Department at LIS in January 2016.

    James grew up in Altenburg. He studied history at Leipzig University where he also worked as a tutor. A Fulbright Scholarship brought him to Washington, D.C. Back in Leipzig, he started working with children and young people and completed a Diploma in Social Pedagogy and Social Work (FH) at the University of Applied Sciences Mittweida. Before joining LIS in 2013, he worked in Uganda for many years where he helped set up developmental programmes for children and young people. At LIS he is currently working as Hort Leader and is a member of the school’s works council.

  • Krzyzaniak, Ulrike

    Ulrike grew up in Leipzig and attended the sports school with the profile of competitive swimming.
    After finishing school, she decided to train as a social assistant. This apprenticeship encouraged her to become a kindergarten educator.
    To gain more experience in childcare, Ulrike moved to the United States and worked there as an Aupair for a year.  After her year in the United States, she wanted to gain more and different experience and moved to Austria. There she worked as an educator in a hotel kids club. With many different experiences, Ulrike decided to move back to Leipzig.  In November 2020, she completed her training as a children's yoga teacher.
    In her spare time, Ulrike works as a volunteer for the DLRG (German Life Saving Association).  Ulrike will join the after-school team in August 2021.

    Matthias grew up in Gardelegen near Magdeburg (Germany). After he finished school in 2012 he moved to Leipzig for his study in elementary school education. At the beginning of 2017 he did a voluntary internship in Crewe (UK). In 2019 he finished his second “Staatsexamen” in Connewitz/Leipzig and went to Australia for working and travelling. Matthias is working at LIS as a German teacher in primary school. In his free time he loves doing sports like playing football.

    Vivien, was born in Leipzig and has been living in Gohlis since then. In 2014, she graduated from secondary school at the sports school, Leipzig. Vivien did a BFD at the university clinic Leipzig as an surgery assistant. In 2016, she worked as a nursing assistant in the old people’s home 'Pflegewohnstift Gohlis'. She started her training as social assistant in August 2016 and graduated in June 2018.
    Vivien absolved several internships e.g. at the Kindergarten 'Hildegardstift' and here at the Leipzig International Kindergarten. She will be starting at LIK in August 2019 and is happy to become a member of the LIS community.

    Christine’s journey at Leipzig International Kindergarten began in August 2018 and since then she was one of our EY1 Educators. She has over 14 years’ experience working with young children across three countries in Germany, the USA and the Netherlands. Chris has worked in several integrative and international kindergartens.
    She has completed all her coursework for a  Bachelors' in Early Childhood Education and Management, and is one thesis away from receiving her degree. She is very excited to take over the role as Assistant Principal for Operation and is looking forward to keep working with the fantastic LIK team, children and parents.

    Matthew Lane is from Brisbane, Australia, where he completed bachelor’s degrees in arts and education at the University of Queensland. He also holds a Master of Education, majoring in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). After working in the public education system in Queensland for several years he began his international teaching career at the International School of Stuttgart. Matthew has worked as an English as Additional Language teacher at LIS since August 2012.

    Marianne was born in Leipzig and is a trained multilingual assistant. She lived in the UK for a time where she gathered experience as a commercial assistant and has also worked in several business functions in Germany. She joined LIS on 1 April 2011 and after two years as Whole School Secretary she is now working in the Secondary School Office.

    Michael comes from a small town called Ocean City, U.S., which is an island off the coast of Southern New Jersey. This is where he learned to love a long day at the beach and where frequent family trips to nearby Washington D.C. and New York City filled him with a passion for exploring new places all over the world.
    Michael studied History and Spanish with a focus in education at Rutgers University and later he earned his Masters Degree in Spanish Linguistics and language acquisition. During his first six years as an educator Michael worked as a bilingual Spanish teacher in Atlantic City, New Jersey. He became curious about exploring more of the world and when he discovered International Education Michael quickly felt right at home working in these wonderfully diverse learning communities.
    He has worked in schools in China, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Hamburg, Germany and most recently, Hungary. He loves teaching literacy especially when his students fall in love with books and telling stories.

    Danielle Lebel grew up in Quebec city, the capital of the French province of Canada. She holds a teaching degree and licence from Laval University in teaching French Mother Tongue and is also qualified to teach EAL. Danielle joined LIS in 2006, having previously taught English and French in Japan, Brunei and Switzerland. Additionally, she is an IB examiner for French B.

    Brian grew up in Central Australia before studying for a bachelor's degree in English Literature and Spanish in Adelaide. Moving to Darwin, he completed his teacher training and then left for London where he lived and taught for twenty years. Joining the international system, Brian taught first in northern Italy and he moved to join the LIS team this year after five years in Bangkok. He hopes the move to Germany will hone his emerging German language skills!

    Steve grew up in South Jersey USA, and studied and practised Fine Arts and painting at the Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University,  the University of Reading in the UK and at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. Steve has been working at LIS since 2002, presiding over the growth of Art at the school while also continuing to produce his own painting: his work can frequently be seen in local galleries.

    Tim is originally from South Wales and began teaching chemistry in 1987 in the UK. After five years in the state sector, he moved abroad to work in Bahrain, Portugal and Japan. He has delivered workshops for IB Chemistry in India, China and Kazakhstan. Tim has also taught Theory of Knowledge from 2002 onwards. Most recently he has worked at an international academy in Oxford and at a private boarding school in South-East England. Tim was also a keen sportsman playing rugby, golf and tennis, but now watches more than he plays. In addition to this, he has played the cello since the age of 11 and would like to get involved with a classical music group in Leipzig.

    Sie Mei Li grew up in London (UK), and is a Biomedical Science Graduate with a PGCE from King's College London. Sie Mei joined LIS in 2009, having previously taught in a London state school, a bilingual school in Sichuan (China) and an international school in the Bahamas. She is a Biology specialist who has taught IGCSE/IB Biology, PSHE and Maths at LIS, and is currently teaching General Science to Grades 6-8.

    Liane graduated as 'Diplomkauffrau' from studying Business Psychology, Business Administration, Marketing and Tourism Management. The central focus of her work has been in these areas since then. During and after her studies she lived and worked in the USA, in Australia and in New Zealand. Originally from Thuringia, she joined the school in 2010 as Parent Community Coordinator. In this position she supported LIS families (especially international families) both with school-related concerns and with any other needs around creating an interesting and satisfying life here in Leipzig. Liane now holds the position of Marketing Manager in which she continues to promote LIS as an outstanding school, both academically and in terms of all-round development.

    Rebecca hails from the pastoralist Turkana community of Kenya’s dry north and has been taking care of children from an early age on. After working as a primary teacher and as field assistant in anthropological research (Kenya, South Sudan and Ethiopia) Ethiopia), she moved to Germany in 2010. To become an educator, she studied social work and education at Euro Akademie L eipzig, graduating in July 2021. Rebecca loves cultural diversity in music, cooking and friendship but most of all she loves working with children.

    Sebastian grew up in Wolfen in Saxony Anhalt before studying Business Administration and Accounting at the University of Applied Sciences in Koblenz. During this time, he took part in an international EU student program in business simulations in Ireland. After his graduation he went to Seattle and worked at a business consultancy. Back in Germany he followed his passion and worked in the football branch in Munich for the state association as well as for a professional football club. Sebastian moved to Leipzig in 2019 and is excited to be part of the LIS team.

    Born and raised in Leipzig, Max is one of the few natives on the LIS staff. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work.
    In Juli 2019 Max joined the school as Hort-Educator and teaching assistant.  
    Before joining LIS, he worked in the field of integration-work as a teacher for German with refugees from different countries and of different ages (6 to 60).  Alongside his studies he worked also in an orphanage for refugees, supporting and helping them to get along with their difficult situations, with learning German, handling the German bureaucracy, finding an apprenticeship and handling everyday life.

    Dana returned to her childhood home City of Leipzig, having lived the last 15 years in the United States. While there, Dana earned Bachelor's degrees in Music and Arts Management as well as a Master's Degree in Music. Residing in Boston for eight years, Dana kept a busy schedule teaching voice, choir and recorder. In addition to many cities in the U.S., Dana's opera career has taken her to Italy, Austria and Germany. While in Boston, from 2010-12, she taught Music, Choirs and Hort in the German International School Boston (GISB). Dana joined LIS in 2013 and enjoys teaching Early Childhood Music at the Leipzig International Kindergarten.

    Vita Martynyuk grew up in Kiev and started her career as Translator and Interpreter working for international companies in Ukraine. With a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service she left her home country in 2005, and two years later she obtained a double Master´s degree in Global Studies, from Leipzig University and from Vienna University. After four years working as a Technical Writer in Leipzig and gaining a further Master’s degree in General Management from Leipzig University of Applied Sciences 'HTWK', she joined LIS, and since 2014 she has been working as the school's Facility and Purchasing Coordinator. Vita now holds the position of Head of Facility Management.

    Traci Mausolf is a California native and holds a BA in Liberal Studies, a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential (Grades K-6), a Supplemental for English as a Single Subject (Grades K-8), and is currently working to complete her certification as a Mindful Educator through Mindful Schools. Traci began teaching in California in 1999, but shortly thereafter moved to Hamburg, Germany where she worked at the International School of Hamburg for almost 17 years. New to LIS this school year, she is excited to share her 20 years of teaching experience with her Grade 4 students and the LIS community.

    Deanne is a British teacher from the vibrant city of Birmingham. Deanne’s interests are travelling, reading and being creative. Deanne graduated with honours from The University of Nottingham in 2010 and then went on to complete her PGCE in Secondary ICT at The University of Warwick. Deanne has spent her teaching career working in a Media Arts College in Birmingham and an international school in Bangkok, Thailand. In the latter part of her career Deanne has developed and refined the Primary ICT curriculum, giving students the opportunity to become more ICT-literate. Deanne is currently a Primary Class Teacher, working with the upper end of our Primary students.

    Ulrike grew up in Lutherstadt Wittenberg, Saxony-Anhalt. She has a master's degree in chemistry and in business studies. She has worked in several institutes for scientific research and in the technical and sales departments of various companies in Germany for several years. Before joining LIS in 2012, Ulrike spent some years in Cracow, Poland, and since then has been working here in the science department.

    Claudia was born and raised in Leipzig. She obtained a degree as a state-approved pedagogue and then she joined her husband in Seattle and later in Nashville, TN. In Nashville, Claudia graduated with a Master’s degree at Peabody College in Early Childhood Special Education and worked there in different child care centers as a preschool teacher.
    All three of Claudia’s children were born in Nashville. The family decided to move back to Germany in July 2019. Claudia has joined the team at LIK in August 2019.

    Suelyn Melo Range is from a Brazilian coastal city called Santos. After working in Guest Relations at five star hotels within Europe and Brazil, as well as one of the world’s largest cruising boats, she decided to make a cut and started dedicating her life to Education. After her graduation in Modern Languages and teaching Portuguese, undergoing through a specialization in Art and Education Studies and leading an art project for kids in the city of Leipzig, Sue worked as part of the Hort Team as Educator Assistant from August 2017 and moved to LIK in August 2021.

    Ulrike is currently an English as an Additional Language teacher and joined LIS in 2010. Originally from Leipzig, she moved to Salem, Oregon to complete her teacher training and graduated from Western Oregon University with a degree in Primary School Teaching in 2009. She has also taught Early Years 3 and Grade 2 and 5 at LIS. She was responsible for the Primary School Yearbook 2014-2016.

    Originally from the south-west of England, Ian has lived in Leipzig since 2007 where he moved in order to complete his M.A. in Global Studies: A European Perspective at the Universität Leipzig. After two years working as the Practical Language Program Coordinator at the Technische Universität Chemnitz he pursued a career in secondary school teaching and has been at Leipzig International School since 2011.  He has an MEd in (Secondary) Educational Leadership from the University of Buckingham.

    Jordan was raised in Texas, USA. She received her Bachelor of Science in Education with a focus on Early Years Education and Second Language Learners from the University of Arkansas in 2018. Jordan has always had a passion to teach internationally and shortly afterwards she moved to Chonburi, Thailand in which she began working at an International Kindergarten as an EY1 English teacher for a year and a half. While abroad, Jordan met her German husband who is from Leipzig. She is very excited to join the Leipzig International Kindergarten community.

    Dimitrios grew up in the North West of Greece in the city of Ioannina. In 2011 he graduated from the University of the Aegean with a BEd in Educational Sciences. In 2013 he relocated to Manchester, England. For 5 years he held various support positions in UK state schools and he completed his MA in Inclusive Education and SEN at Manchester Metropolitan University (2014). His Qualified Teacher Status was awarded by the National College for Teaching and Learning (UK). At the moment he is writing his thesis for a MBA in Educational Leadership, from Tampere University of Applied Sciences(Finland). Dimitrios' philosophy is that of Inclusive Education. He has a positive attitude and is determined to help his students with their learning and give them confidence to succeed. His hobbies are football and running and, outside school, he can be found coaching football, as he is a qualified coach from the English FA.

  • Moccia, Beatrice

    Beatrice is the new Assistant Principal for Curriculum at LIK. She is a great International example as she is originally Italian but grew up in Valencia, Spain. Moreover, due to her university studies, Beatrice lived and worked in Ireland for almost three years. After finishing her Early Childhood degree, Bea moved to Modena (Italy) where she worked at a British Kindergarten for three more years. In 2017, she finished her Masters Education in “Leadership and School Management”.
    Beatrice's desire to learn from another educational system led her to Leipzig, and she fell in love straight away with the city and its people. During the past year, she worked as an Early Years Specialist in EY2 and  had the opportunity to create a strong bond with the children, the team and the rest of the school community.
    Beatrice's objective is to guide, help and support the rest of the LIK team to develop a structured, solid and gradual curriculum that will enable the Leipzig International Kindergarten to reach its maximum potential.

    Pia was born in Leipzig and grew up there. She studied Business Administration at the University of Leipzig and graduated with a degree in Business Management. After her studies, she worked as a controller for a French building materials company for several years before she joined the Accounting and Finance Department of a wood processing company. After further training to become a qualified accountant, she worked for a software company before joining LIS in 2018. She has spent time living and working in the USA and New Zealand both during and after her studies.

    Amy graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a degree in Elementary Education and an art emphasis. Shortly after graduating, she moved to Southeast Asia where she taught at an international school in Laos for over five years. She moved to Leipzig in 2014 and began working at LIS.

    Before moving to Leipzig in 2017, Candice spent 25 years in California's San Francisco Bay Area theatrical community, working behind-the-scenes as a professional technician and trainer.  Throughout her career, she was also involved with youth theatre and dance companies where she worked with and instructed children of all ages.  Aside from her work at LIS, she volunteers as an online teacher/tutor for children ages five to nine. Candice joined the Hort team as an Educator Assistant in April 2021.

    Sarah holds a doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Hull, England. She is a registered Clinical Psychologist, spending 4 years working in England with people across the age and ability span. She specialised in children and adults with complex physical and psychological needs, supporting them to live a rewarding and fulfilling life in the community. She moved to Leipzig in 2019, working for a year as a Primary School Counsellor in Dresden for a maternity post. Sarah joined LIS in January 2021 as the Secondary School Counsellor.

    Olga Murina has a degree in Linguistics, and German as a Second Language from Leipzig University. She has been working at LIS for two years: first in Primary, and then in Secondary School. She currently teaches GSL, is responsible for the Language Development Course of the IBCP programme, and supports Russian mother tongue speakers in the Self-Taught Language A programme.

    Helen grew up on the Orkney Islands, in the north of Scotland. She qualified with a BSc (Hons) in Nursing in 2003, and worked for more than 10 years in hospitals and in the community setting in Scotland, before joining LIS as the school nurse in June 2013.

    Henrike is a volunteer at Leipzig International Kindergarten and she will be with the Foxes (EY1 Transition) this school year. She was born in Leipzig and currently lives in Markkleeberg, where she recently graduated from high school. Music and art are Henrik's passions. She plays the violin and sings, but she also likes to draw and paint.
    Different languages and cultures have always fascinated her, which is why Henrike decided to spend her gap year at LIK. During this year, she hopes to learn a lot about working with children, about herself and about the working world in general.

    Ben Neudert grew up in Leipzig.
    After completing his A-levels in 2015 he gained his first practical experience as a volunteer at LIK.
    In 2017 he started studying sociology and political science.
    However, after 3 years he decided to change his orientation and to work with children.
    He started his training as social assistant in August 2020 and graduated in June 2021.
    In August 2021 he started his training as an educator.

    Since this is a dual study programme, he spends half time of the week in kindergarten and the other half at the vocational school.

  • Neye, Carola

    Carola grew up in Stendal (Saxony-Anhalt) and moved to Leipzig in 2006. She studied Japanese and German as a Foreign Language at the University of Leipzig and did her internship at LIS in 2010. After finishing her Bachelor's Degree she started working at LIS in 2011. Having taught German and GSL in the following years she decided to go back to university to gain her teacher qualification in German and English (Staatsexamen). Currently Carola teaches the IBDP German B programme in Grade 11 and 12 as well as Middle School German.

    Josephine Ng comes all the way from San Francisco and holds a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of the Pacific. Before coming to Leipzig and LIS in 2013, she helped start up a bilingual German-English kindergarten in Halle and worked there for three years. At LIS, she worked with Grade One during her first year and has also worked with Early Years 3. She also serves as a member of the LIS Works Council.

    Kjersti Nichols comes from New York and holds a Bachelor’s in German and a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Chicago. She has been living and working for over 14 years in Germany. She brings to LIS experience in working in child-care and after school settings in both the US and Germany. Prior to joining LIS, she was the director of a bi-lingual communal kindergarten in Halle. At LIS she led the Hort team between January 2013 and March 2019. She is currently the Kindergarten Principal at Leipzig International Kindergarten.

    Antje obtained her PhD in Psychology at the University of Auckland/New Zealand, before returning to Germany. After a decade in brain research, followed by research coordination she found her way into business administration. Since January 2019, she is the HR Manager at Leipzig International School.

    Sally Nixon is originally from Nottingham in England and studied Theology with Youth work in Manchester. She has loved Germany ever since she first visited as a teenager.     Ute Nußbaum grew up in Schleswig-Holstein and received professional and educational training at Lufthansa in Hamburg and Frankfurt. After 31 years serving as international flight attendant, customer service specialist, supervisor and communication trainer she has been supporting the marketing department of her husband's company.     Serkan Öktem was born and raised in Izmir in Turkey. He moved to Istanbul for his university education in 1993 and graduated from Marmara University with a bachelor degree in electronics and computing education in 1998. He started teaching ICT in the same year at a private elementary school.  After a period of study at New York Institute of Technology, he returned to Turkey, and from 2003 worked in private schools with international programmes. Serkan gained his master’s degree in 2013 in Educational Administration and Supervision at Sabahattin Zaim University & Marmara University of Istanbul. LIS is his first international school.

    Rebecca grew up in a small village near Leipzig. At a very youn age, she realised her passion for social work. In 2014 she decided to study social work in Görlitz. Here she was able to experience a lot of cultural exchange due to the close border to Poland. She also loves to discover new languages.
    After her graduation in 2018, she travelled Australia and South-East Asia. 
    Rebecca was very excited, curious and motivated, when she started at LIS in September 2019. Besides her Educator-in-Class function, Rebecca is the LIS Peer Mediator coordinator, training and accompanying students in their function to solve conflict situations on the playground.

    Kyla joined Leipzig International School in 2018 and has worked as a class teacher in the Kindergarten and Primary school. She has a PhD Education from the University of Limerick, Ireland and holds a Master’s Degree in Teaching, and Early Childhood Teaching Qualifications. Before moving to Leipzig, Kyla taught in schools in China, Poland, Ireland, the USA, and the Czech Republic. Kyla grew up in the United States of America and has enjoyed traveling, living, working, and studying around the world.

    Mirte grew up in the Netherlands and holds a Masters degree in history and a teaching degree from Utrecht University. In between teaching at several international schools in the Netherlands, she worked for educational projects aboard two tall ships taking students to the Carribean and back to Europe. Her passion is experiential learning and she enjoys making learning interesting and meaningful. After marrying her German husband, she recently moved to Leipzig and is looking forward to making herself at home in this beautiful, historical city.

Apart from seven years as a uniformed police officer and Fraud Squad detective, he worked most of his life managing hotels, hospitals, medical practices and business offices in the City of London. John obtained the Cambridge CELTA before moving to Switzerland in 2005. Then, for seven years to 2012, he tutored business and legal English to KPMG and PWC in Genf, Lausanne, Fribourg and Bern.  In Leipzig, since 2013, John tutored business English to private clients and at the DHL European Hub.

    Lindsay Raggett hails from Nothern Ireland and holds a degree in German and a PGCE from The University of Newcastle upon Tyne  as well as a  TESOL certificate from Queen's University, Belfast. Her international school career started in Vienna back in 1998 and since then she has lived and taught English, EAL, PSHE and GAL in several different countries accompanied by her husband and three children. In her free time Lindsay loves running, cooking, baking and acting.

    Iveta grew up in Klaipeda, Lithuania and earned her Bachelor's degree in English Philology from Vytatutas Magnus University (Kaunas). During her degree programme, she also had a chance to spend one semester in Cologne, Germany with the ERASMUS exchange programme. In Barcelona, Spain, she carried out an internship, went to Spanish courses and earned a certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). Her continuing interest in education has led her to pursue her studies and she soon moved to Edinburgh, UK where she earned her Master's degree in MSc TESOL. Iveta supports the Hort team in her role as Educator Assistant since November 2017.

    Anna grew up in a small village in Thuringia and moved to Erfurt to get her A-level. She then studied educational science at the University of Erfurt. After her studies, she travelled to Colombia for half a year and moved to Leipzig in 2017. In Leipzig, she worked in a residential youth care facility with unaccompanied refugees underage until 2019. As a passionate traveller, she spent two years travelling the world and gaining many new experiences in different volunteer jobs. She has been back in Leipzig since November 2020 and is now looking forward to becoming part of the International School Leipzig.

    Lisa Regber grew up in Leipzig and has a Bachelor's degree in Social Work from BA Breitenbrunn. Before her studies, she worked and lived in New York (USA) for 1.5 years as an au pair. While she was studying at BA Breitenbrunn she worked at a health-related centre for young people in Edinburgh (GB) and a children's home in Leipzig. She began her career as a social worker and assistant team leader in a children's home. Since December 2014 she has been working as an educator at the Leipzig International Kindergarten in an Early Years 1 class.

    Olga Romanyuk is a Ukrainian with international experience. After obtaining degrees in Business Administration (B.A.) and Project Management (M.A.) in Kyiv, Ukraine, she worked for industrial research centers and international event teams. Having moved to Leipzig, Olga joined LIS in 2015 first as part of Hort team. She then received her Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from the University of Sunderland in the UK and became a supply teacher in the Primary School. She now works as a part time permanent substitute and enjoys teaching across all classes and grades.

    Britta Rössner comes from Hildesheim, Germany and holds a Master’s degree in German, English and Social and Economic Psychology from the University of Göttingen. She also obtained a PGCE teaching degree from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, where she taught in high schools. After her return to Germany, Britta lived and taught in Berlin and completed the Staatsexamen für Lehramt an Gymnasien. Britta joined LIS in 2010 and currently teaches German and works as a form tutor in Secondary School.

    Daniela was born in Jena and raised in a little village nearby. After graduating from the Friedrich-Schiller University in Jena with a Master’s degree in education and teaching German, she ventured outside Europe and explored Asia. 11 years later she has gained lots of teaching experience in different countries such as China, Malaysia, Korea, and Japan. She is now looking forward to teaching at LIS.

    Sabrina originally comes from Italy. She moved to the UK after high school to study at University of Glasgow, where she completed her Master's degree in Medicinal Chemistry. As part of her degree she worked in the laboratories of the chemical company BASF in Ludwigshafen, Germany. During her studies, Sabrina has enjoyed working as babysitter and tutor. Moreover, she has played volleyball for 12 years and has assisted in coaching. Throughout the years she has developed her vocation for teaching which lead her to complete an international PGCE at the University of Sunderland, UK and an IB training. Sabrina is now teaching IB and IGCSE Chemistry and Biology as well as general sciences in middle school. She loves cooking (which is all about biochemistry indeed!) and enjoyes cycling, swimming and travelling. She has a special love for seaside locations, which remind her of her hometown in Sicily.

    Justin grew up in Scotland and Germany and has lived in Leipzig since 2002. He holds a history degree from the University of London and a teaching qualification from the University of Buckingham. He has been at LIS since 2004 and currently teaches history to Grades 8–12 and ToK to Grades 11 and 12. In addition, he is Head of the Social Studies Department and the University Admissions & Careers Advisor.

    Bekir is from Kayseri, a city close to the land of fairy chimneys of Cappadocia,Turkey. He spent his childhood in the city Konya of the Whirling Dervishes. As he watched them whirling, he wondered how to calculate the circumference of the circular paths they made and decided to be a mathematician.
    He had his Bachelor degree with honors on Mathematics Teaching in METU, Ankara, in 1994. He also had double major in Math where he mostly focused on computer programming languages. After his graduation Bekir started to work as a teacher in 1994 and never quit teaching since then. He worked in many different countries with different international programmes. He took part in EU Comenius school partnership projects, and is happy to be a part of LIS family.

    Archie was born in Devon, in the south of England. Although, he spent the later parts of his childhood in Christchurch, New Zealand. He later moved back to the UK, studying Social Pedagogy/Residential Child Care whilst holding a full time job in Aberdeen, Scotland. That job included the running and leading of outdoor education groups for children aged 2-11 years old, who came from disadvantaged backgrounds. Furthermore, Archie also held a senior position working in a residential home for young adults. Since moving to Leipzig in early 2019, he has been teaching English to children of all ages, both in classroom settings and more informal settings such as camps. Archie has greatly enjoyed his varied professional experiences, experiencing different countries and cultures. He is thrilled to be living in the exciting city of Leipzig, and looks forward to exploring the city more. Moreover, he is excited to continue his professional development here at LIS, as well as the chance to put his theory, as well as years of experience from Scotland and here Germany, into practice.

    Jennifer was born and raised in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. After earning her Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, she moved to Osaka, Japan to teach English for two years. Her next move took her to Hong Kong where she taught Kindergarten and realized her passion for teaching internationally. She then studied to earn her Kindergarten teaching license and a Master’s of Education in Curriculum and Instruction. After spending 6 wonderful years in Asia, Jennifer relocated to Germany and joined the Leipzig International School community in August 2019.

  • Schleif, Susanne

    Dr Susanne Schleif is a native Leipziger. She studied German as a foreign language and Oriental philology at Leipzig University and holds a PhD in Applied Linguistics/Language teaching methodology. In 2018, Susanne obtained a Master-degree in educational leadership from the University of Buckingham. Susanne taught GSL for young adults at C1/C2-level in Leipzig, GSL and German at a German school in Cairo/Egypt and led various seminars at Halle and Leipzig University. Susanne joined LIS in 2007, currently teaches German for Grades 6-12 and Approaches to Learning.

    Oliver is an original "Leipziger". He knows his City inside out. After completing school he started his professional life as a passionate hair dresser and moved on to working as a freelance photographer. However, after 15 years he decided to change his orientation and to work with children, as an Educator. Since 2016 he worked together with unaccompanied minor refugees in youth welfare. Oliver is very happy to become a member of the LIS community.
    In his freetime Oliver is into wrenching, fixing cars and building computers. He is a dynamic, positive and very empathic person.

  • Schmid, Alison

    Alison Schmid graduated with a Bachelor of Behavioural Science (Hons) from Flinders University, South Australia and also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Teaching and Learning.  She has taught in primary schools in South Australia and since 2016 in international schools in Switzerland and Germany. 

    Having worked for two years for an educational speech and psychology service in Australia, she is passionate about inclusive education and she is currently studying for a Master’s degree in special and inclusive education.

    Stefan grew up in Riesa before he left to study Social Work in The Netherlands. After achieving his Bachelor degree in Social Work in 2012, he moved to London to work with homeless young people aged 16-25 years. Stefan returned to Germany in July 2017, working initially as an educator in a kindergarten and nursery. Stefan joined the LIS Hort team in January 2019. Besides his Educator-in-Class function, Stefan is the LIS Volunteer Responsible, accompanying and supporting LIS gap year volunteers in Primary school and Hort.

    Josephine holds a bachelor’s degree in social work from the University of Applied Sciences Mittweida. During her studies she completed a practical semester in School Social Work at a middle school in Leipzig. Before she joined LIS as an educator in Hort and classroom assistant for grade 3 in May 2017, she worked as a Social Pedagogue and Job Coach for adults at an education centre in Leipzig. She joined the Student Support team in August 2018 as the Primary School Counsellor.

    Dr Jacinta Simasi hails from western Kenya; she graduated with a Bachelor of Education degree in Science from Maseno University. After teaching Biology at secondary school for a while, she moved on to do her Master’s degree in Zoology at Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology, Nairobi. She holds a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Leipzig. Jacinta joined LIS in 2012. Before that she worked as a researcher at Fraunhofer Institute of Cell Therapy and Immunology and Robert Koch Klinik in Leipzig. She has also taught at Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology in Kenya.

    Lily-May joined LIK as a volunteer in August 2021. She was born in Upper Austria, so her mother tongue is German, but she prefers to speak English and hopes to study in England one day. Some of her favourite hobbies are reading, painting, listening to music and occasionally playing bass guitar. Amy also likes to do puzzles or watch movies when she wants to relax. Red is her favourite colour and sticky tofu is her favourite food.

    Allison Taylor is from New Zealand, and is an English and Education graduate of the University of Wellington. She also holds a Master's degree in Education Administration from Massey University of New Zealand. Allison joined LIS in 2012, having previously taught in New Zealand and at international schools in Indonesia and Sudan. She currently teaches English and is a form tutor in Grade 12.

  • Tsanaktsidou, Ioanna

    Ioanna was born in Greece, and she studied early years childhood education at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Ioanna fell in love with teaching and her favourite thing during her studies was to be inside the kindergarten. After she finished her bachelors degree, Ioanna immediately  started her master's degree on Creative Writing at the Univeristy of Western Macedonia. Her research theme was "Creative story-telling and kinetic expression in kindergarten: Development of children's social skills". Ioanna's main goal is to give all children in her classroom the opportunity to express themselves through fun and educational activities.

    Monika grew up in a small town near Munich. During her studies as ‘Erzieherin’ she did an internship in Barcelona, Spain, where she worked in a multilingual kindergarten. That’s when her love for the English language and working with people from different cultures began. After she finished her studies she worked for three years in a bilingual kindergarten in Munich. She then became a nanny and travelled several months with her host family through Singapore, Australia and New Zealand.

    Ricardo obtained a B.A. in Mandarin language at Donghua University in Shanghai. He continued his journey to become a teacher with a M.A. in teaching Spanish as a foreign language in Spain. More recently, Ricardo has done his PGCE in Manchester. During this time, he had the opportunity to work as a student teacher of Spanish in two different secondary schools. Throughout his teaching career Ricardo has had the opportunity to teach various age ranges in different teaching contexts.

    He always tries to make his lessons engaging and challenging, so students can enjoy the process of learning a new language.  Ricardo tends to remind his students that making mistakes is an intrinsic part of any learning process and they should not be afraid of them.

    Frank was born in Spain but grew up in Australia. He holds a Diploma of Teaching, B.A. (Honours) and  a Master’s degree in Linguistics. He joined LIS in 2012, having taught a variety of subjects and age groups in Australia for many years and internationally in Spain, Hong Kong, Venezuela and Japan. He currently teaches Secondary English as an Additional Language and is coaching the Varsity Girls football team.

    Cátia was born in Braga, a city in the North of Portugal. After finishing her BA in Primary Education in 2007, she worked as a class teacher in different schools, and she was a member of the editing team for Santillana Publishers, creating multimedia content for Primary digital books. She is currently co-writing a book on how children can integrate their experiences to develop more integrally. After recently moving to Leipzig, Cátia joined LIS, where she will have the chance to continue focusing on her students' holistic development, highlighting their mindful learning and progress.

    Alice Vogt recently moved to Leipzig from the Netherlands where she has studied education for kindergarten and primary school. During her studies she specialised in Waldorf educational, a pedagogy that has a holistic view on the development of children. After getting her degree she has been working as a primary school teacher in a Waldorf school in Utrecht.
    With her interest in the children’s early years of development, Alice is very excited to work for LIK. Alice enjoys caring as well as creating a warm, safe and inspiring environment so children are triggered in their imagination and stimulated to play and learn.

    Alena was born in Berlin and grew up there for most of her life. After finishing her A-Levels Alena travelled to Ireland for a year where she lived and worked in a Camphill Community, supporting adults with disabilities. In 2017 she began studying sociology at Leipzig University and completed her Bachelor of Arts in 2020. Alena is now looking forward to joining the LIK as an administrative assistant.

    Leslie grew up in Oakville, Ontario where she also taught for eight years before beginning her international teaching career. Leaving the Canadian winters behind, she spent two years teaching in the Cayman Islands before moving to Leipzig in 2009. During her time here, Leslie has taught across the Early Yeas and the Primary School, and has been a Phase Level Leader in both Early Years and Primary.  Leslie has a BA in History from the University of Western Ontario and a PGCE from Canterbury Christ Church University College.

    Ella has returned to Germany after living abroad for the last 19 years. She was born and raised in Saxony where she was trained to become a nurse. Afterwards she pursued her dream to travel and moved to Canada where she met her husband whom she joined to live in the UK. Ella has gained her degree in Early Education and Childcare in Edinburgh and has worked in preschool for many years. She happily joined the LIK team in December 2020.

    Mélanie comes from Strasbourg in France. There, she worked a few years with children and teenagers as a qualify monitor. Afterwards, she worked as a qualified social worker with homeless people. Before all of that she lived in different countries such as Canada and the USA  and travelled as much as she could for a few years through Latin America, the Philippines and Togo.

She lived, studied and worked several years abroad in China and Australia before moving to Leipzig to specialise in accounting, audit and finance and worked in this field for several years before coming to LIS.     Kristina Wolf is originally from Freiberg, Saxony. After completing school she took care of people's teeth as a dental nurse. However, after 5 years she decided to move to London and work with children, both as an au-pair and a preschool teacher. In 2002 she came back to Leipzig, where she obtained her qualification as an educator and has been part of the LIS team since 2005. Currently she works in the Leipzig International Kindergarten in the Early Years team.

    Yvonne grew up in Altenberg in the beautiful Ore mountains in South-East Saxony. After she graduated from high school Yvonne moved to Leipzig to complete her social assistant and educator training.

    She finished her training in 2015 and started working at Leipzig International Kindergarten. Here Yvonne has had the pleasure of working in both, Nursery and Early Years settings.

He has enjoyed working with students in international schools in the United Arab Emirates and Austria.
