About GISST

The Athletics Department supports the mission of Leipzig International School by helping student-athletes to develop skills and attributes valuable in becoming global citizens. Sport and physical activity promote personal growth and development, has a positive physiological and psychological effect on health, fitness and well-being and can help to develop positive social, interpersonal and psycho-motor skills. It also enriches the lives of those choosing to participate, can be great fun and offers hours, years or ideally a “lifetime” of enjoyment.

Leipzig International School is a full member of G.I.S.S.T (German International School Sports Tournament). The aim is to provide students from German International Schools with the opportunities for participation in quality sporting activities on a competitive basis. The GISST Programme offers opportunities for students from Grades 5 to 12. Grades 5 to 8 students are classed as U14 and Grades 9 to 12 are classed as Varsity, with a few exceptions depending on birth date.

LIS competes with ten other international schools located within Germany. Football, Volleyball, Badminton, Tennis, Basketball, Swimming, Cross Country and Track and Field are offered during the school year. Training sessions are held twice a week after school. Games and tournaments mostly take place on Saturdays and occasionally on weekdays.

We hope as many students as possible will join and either try a sport for the first time or continue with their favourite sport!

Unfortunately ALL GISST events have been cancelled for the 2020/21 year.

The GISST AD’s are delighted to announce that we have a dedicated GISST website now. Please click here and have a look.
