Grades 11-12 Subject Specialisation and Independent Learning

The IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) at LIS challenges students to reach high with their academic goals.

The IBDP requires students to complete a core of Theory of Knowledge; an original piece of research called an Extended Essay, in a subject of their choice; and a varied programme involving Creativity, Action and Service. Around this core they choose 6 subjects (3 at Higher Level) to gain the diploma.

Organised by the International Baccalaureate Office based in Geneva, Switzerland, the International Baccalaureate (IB) represents a very rigorous academic programme with an emphasis on academic achievement, critical thinking, scientific ability and community service.  The IB examinations at the end of Grade 12 are set and evaluated externally by the IB Board of examiners.

Graduating with the IB Diploma, students have access to the world’s leading universities. Our students aim for and enter some of the best Universities in the world - Oxford, Cambridge, London School of Economics, ETH Zurich and many others.

IB Diploma is recognized as German Abitur

Students who take certain courses and achieve certain exam scores can have their International Baccalaureate Diploma recognized as equivalent to the German Abitur. Details about the German recognition of the IB Diploma can be found at the website of the Kultusministerkonferenz and in the Download box on the right.
