LIS Book Week
LIS Book Week
March 27-31, 2023
LIS Campus Könneritzstraße
We love reading!
LIS will be hosting a book week in the last week of March (the week before the Easter holidays). We will again have a school-wide celebration that will immerse us in the world of reading and books. This year’s theme is: Around the World and we have many wonderful things prepared…have a look here:
- Book Week Dress Up and Parade
To celebrate, on March 31st we are asking the children to come to school, dressed up as a book character. The dress up event is a whole school event with secondary students participating too. The children will parade throughout the school. This is not compulsory but it is always lovely to see the children in costumes and dressing up really encourages them to talk to each other about their favourite characters and stories. - Favourite Book
We would like the children to bring in a favourite book from home that they can share with the class. More information from the class teacher. - Extreme Reading Photo Challenge
A fun school event this year is the Extreme Reading Photo Challenge. Students are encouraged to find an unusual, fun or funny reading (most importantly SAFE) reading spot. Then have their photo taken. Students can share their photo on Seesaw. There will be an activity to respond to assigned by your child’s class teacher. - Book Sale
Throughout the week students can buy donated/second-hand books for up to 50 cents. If you would like to donate old books to the sale, these can be dropped off at the school. Please send some pocket money for your child to buy books. All money raised will be donated to Haus Leben Leipzig. - Drop Everything And Read
Each day during book week, there will be a school wide announcement encouraging staff and children to drop everything and read for ten minutes. - Read-a-thon
The school community will be keeping a record of minutes or pages read (depending on grade level). The total number of pages/minutes read will be shared with the school. - Readers throughout the school
Secondary school teachers will be visiting classes to share stories with the children. Primary book clubbers will also be sharing their favourite picture books with some of the classes. - Come share a story with us!
Whether you have a story to tell or simply want to share a book in English, German or any other language, we welcome parents, grandparents and family members to join us. Class teachers will arrange guest readers. - Who pushed Humpty Dumpty?
It was a quiet morning in the forest. The sun was rising and the birds were singing, when an awful crime was committed at LIS. Humpty fell off the wall but did he really fall off, or was he pushed? That´s a mystery that will be solved by the primary students on Friday, 31st March. The crime investigation commences by interviewing suspects across the school. The entire primary team turns into fairy tale characters who are part of the murder mystery.
