We are the Peer Mediators!

Hello Readers! We are the Peer Mediators at LIS and we would like to share with you about Peer Mediation. Peer Mediators are there to help all Primary students solve their problems. Peer Mediation is a peaceful problem-solving method. We are on duty around the playground Mondays-Fridays, except on Thursday, which is when we have our weekly meetings with Ms. Rebecca. These meetings are used to discuss Peer Mediation as a whole.

We had an intensive training programme, where we learned how to help children solve their problems effectively. If you want to find out more about what we do, feel free to come and speak to us. You will find us on the playground wearing our yellow duty vests.

The Peer Mediator Programme supports older Primary students as they take on leadership roles and responsibility on the playground during lunchtime breaks. The aim is to empower students to support other students in creating safe, fun and inclusive play environments and relationships.

The LIS Primary Peer Mediator Programme is for fifth grade students who are specially selected through an interview process. They are trained to support peers during outside break by supporting students involved in a conflict through reflective listening. This includes being a friendly person in order that students feel like they can approach us if they´re in need of help, are lonely or are new to the school.

Essentially, it means that the Peer Mediators aspire to fulfil the aims of the Programme by being responsible, positive role models and offering support to the other students on the playground. Ms. Rebecca as the leader of the programme, supports the Peer Mediators by providing them with tools and training to develop social and emotional abilities, listening skills and restorative based mediation problems solving skills.
