Students from the grade 11 English Language B class visited the Magpies in grade 1 to read them the award-winning storybook “Last Stop on Market Street”. It’s the story of a young boy called CJ who travels by bus with his grandmother to do some volunteer work in a soup kitchen. Along the way, CJ’s grandmother encourages him to recognise the beauty in everyday life and appreciate the diverse range of people who make up a local community. The Magpies were active listeners and asked some excellent questions about the book.
According to a review of “Last Stop on Market Street” published in Booklist magazine, “the celebratory warmth is irresistible, offering a picture of community that resonates with harmony and diversity.” If anyone is interested in reading the book please visit the LIS library!
