Cross-Country
Our first tournament of the season saw the GISST Cross-Country team rise to the challenge at the Bavarian International School near Munich, where our U14 and Varsity girls and boys competed in an intense and demanding event. The competition was fierce, and every kilometer tested our athletes both mentally and physically. Yet, our runners rose to the occasion, giving it their absolute all.
We are incredibly proud of the entire team – not only those who competed in this tournament but also those who worked tirelessly in training and gave their best every step of the way, even if they didn’t make the final selection this time. Your hard work, dedication, and commitment to the sport have not gone unnoticed. You are all a vital part of what makes this team so special, and you represented Leipzig International School with true heart, unity, and pride.
To every runner who laced up their shoes, to every teammate who offered support, and to every individual who persevered through the challenges, we say thank you. You exemplify the very essence of sportsmanship and teamwork, and we couldn’t be prouder of what you achieved. Go LIS Lions – you inspire us all!

Football
For the third consecutive year, the varsity boys have proven themselves unstoppable, reclaiming the title of GISST Football Champions! Their incredible journey began with a Division 2 victory in 2022, which earned them a promotion to Division 1. Since then, they’ve dominated the field, claiming top honors in both 2023 and 2024. This outstanding accomplishment would not have been possible without the unwavering dedication and strategic leadership of their coaches.
Meanwhile, the varsity girls demonstrated exceptional resilience and determination during their tournament in Ulm, braving snow and icy conditions to secure an impressive 6th place finish. Immense gratitude goes to their coaches, Alex and Roman, for their tireless effort and heartfelt commitment to the team.
Also deserving of praise is our U14 Boys’ Football team, who delivered an outstanding performance at their most recent tournament. The boys demonstrated impressive teamwork, skill, and sportsmanship on the field, giving their very best in every match. Their commitment to each other and to the game was evident, and they represented LIS with pride and determination. Special thanks and heartfelt appreciation go to Coach Sean, whose expertise and unwavering support have been instrumental in preparing our athletes for this competition. His passion for the sport and belief in every athlete have truly inspired our athletes to give their best. Well done to the entire team – we are proud of you!
Volleyball
In mid-November, our volleyball teams showcased their skills and determination at their respective tournaments, with the girls traveling to Berlin (BBIS) and the boys heading to Düsseldorf (STGD). The level of competition was exceptional, with many matches coming down to the wire and decided by just a few points. Watching our student-athletes grow in both skill and teamwork has been truly inspiring. Their ability to support, console, and uplift one another in the face of challenges reflects the best of our school’s values.
The girls achieved an admirable 8th-place finish, while the boys fought valiantly to secure 10th place, demonstrating resilience and determination every step of the way. We are immensely proud of the grace, sportsmanship, and team spirit they displayed both on and off the court.
This outstanding accomplishment would not have been possible without the unwavering dedication and strategic leadership of their coaches, Bastien and Fabian. Their hard work and passion have been instrumental in our team’s growth and success.
Badminton
The Varsity Badminton tournament brought together some of the best young talent, including Bundesliga-ranked athletes, making for an intense and thrilling competition. Against such strong opponents, our varsity boys delivered an outstanding performance to secure 2nd place, a testament to their hard work and dedication. Meanwhile, our varsity girls showed grit and determination to achieve a well-earned 9th place.
The reports from the tournament were overwhelmingly positive, with our teams exemplifying fair play and sportsmanship throughout. We are incredibly proud of their achievements and the way they represented our school.
We thank our coach, Tom, whose dedication and encouragement were key to preparing the team for this competition. A special shout-out to the three new chaperones who joined us this year – you all did an amazing job!
We couldn’t be prouder of our teams – and indeed, of all our students who participate in the GISST programme. Sports teach us invaluable life lessons: the importance of growth, perseverance, and the power of teamwork. Once again, our teams have sparkled, embodying the true spirit of GISST excellence!
Looking Ahead
With the conclusion of the GISST events for 2024, we want to wish everyone a wonderful and active December! We’ll return in the new year with exciting updates as our students dive into swimming, basketball, and table tennis as well as volleyball and track& field in the third term.
