On Saturday, January 25th, our school hosted an exciting Model United Nations (MUN) conference, organized by eleventh graders Siya Gupta and Anastasia Buscaglia as part of their CAS project. Students from Leipzig International School, Dresden International School (DIS), and Thüringia International School (ThIS) participated as delegates to debate global issues and develop diplomatic solutions.

The day began with an Opening Ceremony featuring a welcome from Siya and Anastasia, a speech by Mr. Allen, and fun icebreaker activities. Delegates then moved into lobbying before engaging in debates within two committees: the General Assembly, discussing water inequality in urban areas, and the Security Council, addressing tensions in the South China Sea.

After a lunch generously provided by the Parent Association, debates resumed with intense discussions and unexpected moments. The day ended with fun “punishments” for rule violations, including an unexpected Just Dance session, adding a lighthearted touch to the event.

Awards for Best Delegate went to Marit (ThIS) in the General Assembly and Silas (LIS) in the Security Council for their outstanding contributions. Throughout the day, delegates reflected on their experiences, highlighting how MUN fosters public speaking skills, research abilities, and a deeper understanding of global politics. Even first-time participants found it rewarding, and many encouraged others to give it a try. If you’re interested in debate, diplomacy, or just want to challenge yourself, MUN is a fantastic opportunity to grow and have fun!
