On Impact Day 2025, our 11th graders had the opportunity to step outside the classroom and meet people who are working every day to make Leipzig a better place. The event’s goal was simple yet powerful: to connect students with local non-profit organizations, introduce them to important causes, and inspire them to take their own first steps in civic engagement.
Meeting inspiring organizations
We were honored to welcome six organizations, each with its own unique mission and story:
- Amnesty International – defending human rights worldwide.
- Zonta Club Leipzig – empowering women and advancing equality.
- Haus Leben e.V. – supporting people living with cancer and their families.
- Leipzig pflanzt! – planting trees and promoting sustainability.
- BUND Leipzig – advocating for environmental protection and climate action.
- Kulturwerkstatt KAOS e.V. – fostering creativity and cultural projects.
Representatives from these groups gave presentations, shared personal insights, and answered questions in open dialogue with the students.
Learning by doing
After the introductions, the day shifted from listening to acting. Students split into small groups to work directly with the organizations. From brainstorming campaigns to supporting ongoing projects, they were able to contribute in meaningful, hands-on ways. Even though the contributions were small, they symbolized the beginning of something bigger: students realizing that they, too, can make an impact.
A day of discovery and motivation
The experience offered more than just a look at the diversity of volunteer work in Leipzig. It gave students a chance to reflect on their own interests and values. Whether drawn to human rights, environmental protection, social support, or creative projects, every student found a potential path to get involved.
Impact Day 2025 was more than just an event – it was an invitation. An invitation for our students to see themselves as changemakers, to recognize the power of civic engagement, and to take their first steps toward making a difference in their community.
