For the 25th anniversary of Leben mit Handicaps e.V., a local organization supporting people with disabilities, Louis and Max took on a special CAS project that highlighted community, creativity, and social responsibility. The celebration was held at the cultural center “Villa” in the heart of Leipzig and brought together families, children, and guests in a festive atmosphere.
Louis and Max were responsible for three main aspects of the event:
decorating the venue,
creating a play and creativity space for children,
and supporting the organization after the event.
With balloon garlands, signs and festive visuals, they transformed the Villa into a welcoming place. At the same time, they designed a children’s room where kids could read, draw, play games and take part in simple crafts – a space where everyone felt seen and included. Following the event, they also organized a mocktail bar at the “Back to School” Party at LIS to raise funds for Leben mit Handicaps e.V..
Their motivation stemmed from shared values: community, inclusion, and creativity. This project gave them the opportunity to put these values into action while directly contributing to an event that brought together people with and without disabilities. Beyond the visible results, the experience challenged them to take responsibility, organize effectively, and collaborate with a local institution.
The project also came with challenges, especially preparing everything on the day of the celebration and managing their time during the planning stage. Clear communication, early deadlines for materials and support from their CAS supervisor, Gitte Vogel-Sirin, as well as volunteers and staff, helped them succeed. In the end, their efforts paid off: the decorations created a festive atmosphere, the children’s room was constantly in use and feedback from both guests and organizers was overwhelmingly positive.
For Louis and Max, the project became a meaningful learning journey. They discovered that they could work well under pressure, take initiative and turn creative ideas into reality. They also gained insight into the behind-the-scenes work required to make community events successful and saw how grateful people were for even small contributions. Skills such as communication, teamwork and organization grew stronger, along with their confidence and sense of social responsibility.
The event was equally valuable for Leben mit Handicaps e.V., as it not only marked 25 years of impact but also gave families a space to feel supported and celebrated. The children’s room, in particular, provided a joyful and welcoming place, adding warmth to the overall atmosphere.
Looking back, Louis and Max reflected that a more structured timeline and additional interactive activities would be useful for future projects. Still, the most powerful takeaway was the visible joy of the participants:
“The smiles, the laughter, and the sense of belonging showed us that all our effort was worthwhile,” they said.
Their CAS project thus became more than just an assignment — it was a living example of inclusion and the strength of community spirit.
