This year’s IB Visual Arts Exhibition brought together an impressive and diverse collection of student work. From sculpture to video, painting to textiles, the exhibition space was transformed into a rich landscape of ideas and expression. Some pieces invited interaction, drawing the audience in physically and emotionally, while others revealed their meaning gradually, rewarding careful observation. Each artwork stood as a deeply personal reflection of the artist behind it.
Many of the works engaged directly with the complexities of the world today. Themes of identity, displacement, climate anxiety and digital life emerged throughout the exhibition, offering thoughtful and sometimes challenging perspectives. Some artists explored personal narratives – family histories, cultural heritage and questions of belonging – while others responded to global events, reflecting on conflict, inequality and the fast-changing nature of our societies. Through symbolism, abstraction and storytelling, these young artists invited viewers to pause, question and connect.
What stood out most was not only the technical quality of the work, but the depth of thinking that underpinned it. Students demonstrated remarkable courage in exploring complex themes and showed a clear commitment to developing their ideas from initial inspiration through to resolved, final pieces. There was a clear sense that each work had been wrestled with, refined and carefully considered over time.
The exhibition represents months of experimentation, risk-taking and refinement. Under the expert guidance of Ms. Brinkley and Ms. Batte, students were supported in pushing their creative boundaries and articulating something meaningful about the world around them. The result is a body of work that is both thoughtful and authentic.
Within the exhibition, we saw designers, graphic novelists, storytellers, weavers, archivists, sculptors, painters, illustrators and photographers – each capturing something true about the human experience through their chosen medium. Together, their work formed not just an exhibition, but a conversation – one that speaks to both individual journeys and shared global realities.
We look forward to sharing these works with the wider community once grading is complete. It will be well worth the wait.
