The LIS School Counselling Programme is a preventative and developmental educational programme that helps students build empathy, self-confidence, self-expression and self-discipline. Students and counsellors work together to enhance student resourcefulness, productivity, competencies and interpersonal, decision-making and conflict-resolution skills. The goal is to strengthen students' own unique capabilities while guiding them as they discover and develop interests and abilities. The school counsellors seek to assist students in meeting their personal potential while meeting the high standards set by Leipzig International School.
Students can be referred to counselling services by teachers, parents or themselves. Our counsellors follow an open door policy so they can support individuals on a drop-in basis.
Meet our Counsellors
Primary School Counsellor
Josephine holds a bachelor’s degree in social work from the University of Applied Sciences Mittweida. During her studies she completed a practical semester in School Social Work at a middle school in Leipzig. Before she joined LIS as an educator in Hort and classroom assistant for grade 3 in May 2017, she worked as a Social Pedagogue and Job Coach for adults at an education centre in Leipzig. She joined the Student Support team in August 2018 as the Primary School Counsellor.
Secondary School Counsellor
Sarah holds a doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Hull, England. She is a registered Clinical Psychologist, spending 4 years working in England with people across the age and ability span. She specialised in children and adults with complex physical and psychological needs, supporting them to live a rewarding and fulfilling life in the community. She moved to Leipzig in 2019, working for a year as a Primary School Counsellor in Dresden for a maternity post. Sarah joined LIS in January 2021 as the Secondary School Counsellor.
