Learning Support

The purpose of the Learning Support programme at LIS is to respond to the diverse learning needs of all students.  This includes students who encounter mild to moderate difficulties, as well as students who may require greater academic challenges than those provided within the regular curriculum.
Students experiencing a specific learning deficit need support in acquiring skills and strategies that will enable them to succeed with the regular curriculum. Through ongoing observation, assessment and evaluation, learning support specialists and classroom teachers work together to ensure that students' learning needs are met.  Learning support services may include withdrawal (individual and/or small group intensive instruction), in-class support by a Learning Support Specialist, differentiation by classroom teacher after consultation with Learning Specialist and monitoring student progress.

Lito-Vera Fouki

Early Childhood/Primary Learning Support Specialist

Lito Vera earned a Bachelor degree in Educational/Pedagogical Sciences from the University of Ioannina, Greece. Upon graduation, she moved to Manchester, UK, where she obtained a Master Degree in Inclusive Education and Special Educational Needs. She started gaining experience in Primary and Secondary schools in the Greater Manchester area as a PPA and Intervention Teacher. Lito strongly believes in the value of Inclusion and considers it as an opportunity to enrich all aspects of our community. Embracing the fact that students exhibit a range of abilities and learn differently, Lito views Inclusion as a means to empower all learners to fulfil their own individual potentials. In her free time, Lito enjoys sculpting and painting as well as playing and watching volleyball. She also likes listening to music and reading books.

Thomas Elms

Middle School Learning Support Specialist

Thomas Elms is from London, England. He has an honours degree in English Literature and a Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) in Primary Education with a Modern Foreign Languages (German) specialism. Tom is a strong advocate of inclusive education, having taught in various primary, secondary and SEN schools in and around Manchester, north-west England. Tom made the move to Leipzig in 2009 with his wife Bryony Galligan, also a teacher at LIS. He is a keen cyclist, runner and tennis player, and enjoys working with pupils to help them succeed outside of the classroom also, through coaching the LIS Lions badminton and tennis teams.

Dimitrios Mitsis

Upper Secondary Learning Support Specialist

Dimitrios grew up in the North West of Greece in the city of Ioannina. In 2011 he graduated from the University of the Aegean with a BEd in Educational Sciences. In 2013 he relocated to Manchester, England. For 5 years he held various support positions in UK state schools and he completed his MA in Inclusive Education and SEN at Manchester Metropolitan University (2014). His Qualified Teacher Status was awarded by the National College for Teaching and Learning (UK). At the moment he is writing his thesis for a MBA in Educational Leadership, from Tampere University of Applied Sciences(Finland). Dimitrios' philosophy is that of Inclusive Education.Dimitrios' philosophy is that of Inclusive Education. He has a positive attitude and is determined to help his students with their learning and give them confidence to succeed. His hobbies are football and running and, outside school, he can be found coaching football, as he is a qualified coach from the English FA.
