World Bee Day 2026

Bringing our Community together for Nature

Five Years of Celebrating World Bee Day at Leipzig International School

This year marked the fifth annual World Bee Day celebration at Leipzig International School. Organised by the school’s Green Team together with students, teachers, parents and grandparents, the event has become a much-loved tradition that brings our school community together to celebrate nature, sustainability and environmental responsibility.

The aim of Bee Day is to raise awareness about the importance of protecting our environment, with a special focus on insects and the essential role they play in maintaining healthy ecosystems. Through interactive activities, information stands and conversations with local experts, students of all ages learn how everyone can make a positive difference.

Learning from Local Environmental Organisations

One of the highlights of the day is the opportunity to meet organisations from across the Leipzig region that are actively working to protect nature and biodiversity. They inspire our students and staff by sharing practical ideas for environmental action and demonstrating how individuals can get involved in local conservation projects. Bee Day also creates valuable opportunities for teachers to build partnerships and develop future learning projects together with these organisations.

This year’s participating organisations included:

  • Leipzig pflanzt!
  • BUND Leipzig
  • GeoWerkstatt Leipzig e.V.
  • Stadtreinigung Leipzig
  • KlasseKlima (BUNDjugend)
  • Imkerverein Leipzig
  • Stadtbienen Leipzig
  • Leipzig gießt!
  • Naturkundemuseum Leipzig

A Farmers Market with a Purpose

Our Green Team also organised its popular Farmers Market, offering a wonderful selection of homemade and handmade products, including jams, chutneys, soaps, calendula balm, wild garlic pesto and candles, alongside snacks and refreshments.

Every purchase supported a good cause. All proceeds from the market are donated to local organisations dedicated to protecting wildlife and the environment.

Making a Difference Together

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our school community, this year’s Bee Day raised €1,400 for environmental and wildlife organisations.

The donations were distributed as follows:

  • €600 to Nature Support e.V. in Gerichshain, a wildlife rescue organisation that cares for injured and orphaned wild birds and animals before returning them to their natural habitats. Their work makes an important contribution to protecting local biodiversity.
  • €300 to the Igelhilfe (Hedgehog Rescue).
  • €100 to GeoWerkstatt Leipzig e.V.

These donations demonstrate how a community event can create a real and lasting impact beyond the school gates.

More Than Just an Event

Bee Day is much more than a celebration of World Bee Day. It is a day created by our community, for our community—bringing together learning, fun and meaningful action.

It strengthens the connection between Leipzig International School and local environmental organisations, encourages students to become active citizens and shows that even small actions can make a big difference when we work together.

As Bee Day continues to grow each year, it reminds us that caring for our planet begins with education, collaboration and a shared commitment to creating a more sustainable future.

Together we learn. Together we act. Together we make a difference.
