The LIS Community Comes Together to Help

The LIS Parent Association called for a donation campaign shortly after the war in Ukraine began. It makes the Parent Association incredibly proud to announce that EUR 10,050.00 have been raised for the International Red Cross of Ukraine.

This is a large amount of money that will go a long way in supporting the terrible crisis currently faced in Ukraine
Together with the Parent Association, we would like to thank the LIS Foundation (Stiftung Leipzig International School) who has donated EUR 5,535.00 – matching the first deadline total for our fund.

Our Parent Association Chairman, Mr James Wyatt, states ‘in times of crisis it is even more important to pull together. Our wide and varied international community came together to donate a significant amount to a very valuable cause. In addition, other fundraising events like the annual opening of the school garden in which some Ukrainian refugees joined our families was a clear sign of humanity coming together to support each other’.
The spirit and energy for this great cause was wonderful to see and brought our parent community closer together.

The LIS Board, Mr Axel Möring, Mr. Patrik Fahrenkamp, Mr Elio Curti together with Mr James Wyatt and Ms Babette Gaida from the LIS Parent Association and our Head of School Ms Brandie Smith and Commercial Director Mr Johannes Barabas hand over the cheques totalling EUR 15,585.00 that were collected in our community.

Together we collected EUR 15,585.00. Of this sum, EUR 5,535.00 will be donated to Save the Children Ukraine and EUR 10,050.00 to the International Red Cross of Ukraine.

We are very impressed how our amazing community has come together for this cause.  We thank everyone for this great commitment.

More Campaigns by our Staff and Students

‘Something for the Weekend’

On Friday, 25 March 2022 students and staff were invited to an informal concert in the Aula. ‘Like many musicians, we had to wait a very long time to perform in front of an audience again.’ stated our music teacher, Mr Paul Foulkes, who initiated this little concert. In a relaxed atmosphere, surrounded by the IB students’ Art exhibition, we kicked off the weekend with a little concert called ‘Something for the Weekend’ performed by our IGCSE music students.

Admission was free, but donations were kindly requested for Ukrainian families in need. We are pleased to announce that an amount of EUR 172.00 was collected at this concert. The money has already been transferred to the International Red Cross.

Bake Sale Organized by a Group of 4th Graders

Our fourth graders are holding a Bake Sale on Thursday, 7th April at lunch break in the cafeteria and would like to donate the money raised to children from Ukraine through the charity organisation Save The Children_Ukraine.

Run for Ukraine

Run 4 Ukraineuntil 08 April (before Easter Break)
The school also wants to support the people of Ukraine with other campaigns during this heartbreaking time. Mrs Gillian Allen, our P.E.teacher, started the campaign Run 4 Ukraine. The idea was to run or walk 5km, donate €5 – or as much as you can afford – and tag 5 friends to ask them to do the same. The school will donate the money to the charity Save The Children_Ukraine .  Make sure to share a picture with the hashtag on social media and tag@leipziginternationalschool, so we can share this initiative far and wide and raise as much money and awareness as possible. Donation in Kind Campaigns

Some of our Gr. 12 CAS students started a donation in kind campaign and collected many things that are currently urgently needed for the refugees here in Leipzig or directly in the crisis area. Together with our Hausmeister team, they transported the collected supplies to the drop-off point of the various aid organisations. We would like to thank all our parents and students who supported this initiative in such large numbers, our CAS students who brought this campaign to life so quickly and our Hausmeisters for their prompt and reliable delivery.

An appeal for donations of urgently needed items in the war zone is still ongoing. You can read about what exactly is needed here. One of our dedicated parents collects all the items from the school and kindergarten every day and delivers them directly to the aid organisations.

We thank all parents, staff and students who are so greatly and generously supporting us in trying to alleviate the suffering a little.
