LIS Special Education Needs Group

Raising a child with special educational needs can be challenging, especially when your child is newly-diagnosed or you have moved to a foreign country. Your child may have a diagnosis of a special educational need (such as autism, dyslexia, dyspraxia, giftedness or attention deficit disorder) or they may just be “different” to other children, perhaps finding it harder to pay attention, make friends, or keep their temper. You may already have a thorough understanding of how to help your child navigate school or you may still be struggling to understand why they find school so hard. Wherever you are on your journey, it is easier if you have support from other people in the same position.

The SEN Parent Group is an opportunity for the parents of children with Special Education Needs to get together, talk through challenges and celebrate successes. Although our group is primarily for parents with children receiving support from Student Support Services, everyone with an interest is welcome, especially if your children are having emotional or behavioural difficulties and/or have not yet been formally diagnosed.

The group meets monthly, in the evening, at a local café. The meetings are relaxed and informal allowing us to share experiences, swap knowledge on local services and support and give feedback to the school on how best to support our children. If you are interested in joining the group, or want more information, please contact us at LIS.SEN2018@gmail.com.
