Mr. Belfield’s Fundraiser Make-Over

Mrs. Downs and the Primary Student Council were contemplating how they could help the people in Australia who have lost so much through the fires that have ravaged large parts of the country. They decided to raise money for the Salvation Army in Australia.

Through their discussion they came up with the idea of Mr. Belfield playing a part in the reward system for the whole Primary’s fundraising goals.

After consulting with Mr Belfield (and Mrs Belfield of course) the Primary Student Council set themselves goals. For every level reached, one procedure would be added to the make-over. For raising 350€ they would allowed to paint Mr. Belfield’s nails. For reaching 500€ they could colour his hair and for reaching 750€ they could make up his face. While announcing this on stage at the Primary School assembly Mr. Belfield jumped in and added “If we manage to raise 1000€, after the make over I’ll take a walk to Konsum!”. Needless to say the Student Council and all the primary students were very motivated to raise as much as they could.

We are very proud to announce that the Leipzig International Primary School raised a whopping 754€ in one week. While this entitled the students to three of the procedures technically it would have freed Mr Belfield from the walk to Konsum. Mrs Downs was not going to let him get away so easily. “If he was a good sport,” said Mrs Downs, winking ;), “he’d still do the walk…” And we all know Mr Belfield is nothing if not a good sport.

Today, in assembly, after the wonderful 2MDT performance on Materials and their attributes, Mr Belfield took to the stage. Of the students who had donated money, a few names were drawn from a hat and they were allowed to come on stage to do their worst. Mrs Downs and Ms Sullivan held up a sheet so the end product was hidden from view until the very end. Once the sheet dropped the laughter level in the newly painted Aula was deafening.

Later that day, Mr B made good on his promise and took a lunch time walk to Konsum (our local grocery store) to buy a sandwich. Needless to say, he turned a few heads.

Thank you Mr Belfield for your stellar sportsmanship, Mrs Downs for your guidance, coordination and energy, LIS Primary School Student Council for your diligent work and creativity and the whole school community for contributing to this cause and joining in so thoroughly. It’s always such a delight to see the joy that is created in communal efforts and simple fun.

Notice: As this “went to print” 13:05 on the 28.02.2020 Mr Belfied could still be seen roaming the halls in full makeup.
